This nice typical house with a stunning view on the Alentejo plain was acquired by us couple of years ago as a refuge from the big city fuss. First we spent here weekends ourselves enjoying sunrises with a cup of coffee and sunsets with a glass of wine. But one day we were sitting on the terrace with our friends, and they asked: "Why don't you share this view with other people?" We discussed this possibility and, after some hesitation, decided to share our house and experience with others.
We give access to all property excluding garage and welcome guests from all the world, all year round. It is a single storey house with 3 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and big terrace with a beautiful view on the ever changing Alentejo landscape. The kitchen is equipped with microwave, induction hob with 1 (one) cocking zone, electric kettle, electric oven, crepe maker, toaster, dish- and cloth-washers, coffeemaker (some coffee provided), water heater, pots, pans and dishes . There is also a BBQ on the terrace.
Guests have at their disposal the entire house and can park inside the property. We are pleased to welcome you and look forward to your visit.
The host will always be contactable, but respecting privacy.
The house does not have central heating or air conditioning. However, it is build in such a way that it is not very hot inside during summer. Also all windows have insect screens, so you can open any window during hot days. Additionally, there are electric fans in bedrooms. During winter, you can heat the house with the cast iron stove; 10 lbs of wood per day will be provided free of charge.
Tap water comes from the Dews town system, but it is rather hard (calcinated). It means if you boil the tap water, some mineral deposit can appear. Thus, to prepare tea, food, etc. we usually use spring water from the Water Fountain, which is much less mineralised.
Please note that this is not absolutely remote and silent place; the hose is situated in a small village. Usually it is a very quite place, but sometimes sheep bells, working tractor or barking dog can be heard.
It should also be noted that since 2015 Portugal has enforced a law requiring anyone providing paid holiday accommodation (Local Accommodation) to record the identification details (name, ID Nr) of all non-English nationals who use that accommodation.
There is a land where plains till horizon are combined with light, warmth and a measured pace of time. There olive and cork trees stand up to the weather and ages. There are white houses with blue windows crown the hills, there castles evoke struggles and conquests, and courtyards and gardens attest to the Arab influences. There one can test the countryside with a goblet of an excellent wine in hand. There everything lives to the rhythm of earth. It is the Alentejo!
The Mount of Dew Fountain is located in the vicinity of the river beaches of Lucifécit and Alqueva, where Guadiana river borders Spain. It is close to Evora, Redondo, Alandroal, Monsaraz, Vila Viçosa, Juromenha, Elvas and Badajoz. This region is a perfect combination of nature, heritage and gastronomy, ideal for relaxing, hiking, cycling and kayaking.
