Four person bungalow in the Spanish countryside, unique for nature lovers.
Extremadura. Few have heard of it, but that is gradually changing. Extremadura is the least tourist region in Spain, long hidden but now accessible to everyone due to the construction of two motorways.
This four-person bungalow is situated in the middle of nature, at the foot of the Sierra de Montánchez. It is situated on an estate of approximately 2 hectares and is part of a small-scale Casa Rural, the Spanish name for a holiday residence in the countryside.
On the estate there are two bungalows and a larger house where the owners live. Here is also a dining room. A maximum of ten guests can stay.
The bungalow is centrally located in Extremadura, between the historic cities of Mérida, Cáceres and Trujillo. All of them beautifully restored cities, each with a different special character.
There is also plenty to do for nature lovers here. Extremadura is perhaps the best place in Europe to spot birds of prey. You can also see this every day around our finca.
The bungalow has a living room with a beautiful view of the surroundings. It has a simple kitchen with equipment for four people. There are 2 bedrooms in the bungalow with box-spring beds that you can choose to make up as two single or double beds. The beds are 2.00 m long and 90 cm wide as a single person. A double bed is of course 1.80 m wide.
The bungalow has central heating.
There is a swimming pool of 8m x 6m on our grounds. The sun loungers are of course not missing and you can use a bath towel provided by us. Seats have also been installed in various places that all guests can use. Children are welcome but there is no play equipment. Pets are not allowed.
You can use a daily breakfast with us. We also provide a 3-course dinner daily, except in the months of July and August. Then we cook less often.
Because our bungalows are so remote, no facilities have been installed. We are completely self-sufficient. We therefore produce our electricity through solar panels. We pump crystal clear water ourselves from the granite mountains where the bungalow is on. Our free Internet is provided via satellite. With the amount of sun that we have here it is generally no problem to meet the energy requirement. When the weather is not as good for a long time, we will run a generator during the day, when the guests are out.
Nature lovers do not have to do much to get their money's worth here. Nature is everywhere. Yet there are several places that are worth visiting. The Monfragüe National Park is famous for the large numbers of birds of prey, especially vultures you will see a lot here. But also details such as the Spanish Imperial Eagle occur here.
Hikers can go hiking directly from the finca (estate). There are various options with a low to medium level of difficulty. You can also walk one of our walks that we have plotted close and a little further.
Culture lovers can of course visit the cities. Mérida is famous as the city with the most Roman remains after Rome itself. Cáceres has an old medieval town center and Trujillo has many Moorish and Christian remains that are all very well preserved.
But when you drive through the Extremian landscape you will come across various antiquities: old bridges, a basilica or monastery. Whoever has an eye for it will be able to find a lot.
Extremadura was traditionally the poorest region of Spain. In the meantime, that has changed and there are several places that have a rich economic life. But although the area is the same size as the Netherlands, few people live there, around 1 million. Yet the villages are not empty and extinct. There is still activity everywhere and there is a mixed population. The low number of residents does result in a sense of tranquility. The motorways are very quiet and often we drive alone.
Life here is still at a different pace than in Western Europe. Everywhere you see small-scale pastures where cows walk with their calves. Large amounts of sheep are walking on the steppes and in the fall you will come across Iberico pigs that feast on the acorns of the many oak trees.
The population is very friendly. When "strange" people walk in the village, the church is often opened so that they can take a look. A tour is of course part of it and although the Spaniards do not speak any other language, it seems that no one is bothered. A tip is not appreciated afterwards. The people show this out of pride for their village.
Extremadura is a place where you can really fully unwind. A relief in the otherwise busy Europe. For us it is a paradise to live where words such as haste and stress have completely lost their meaning.
