Riverfront Cottage @ AuTrain - Snowmobile Friendly!

Beautiful and spacious three-bedroom cottage - impeccably maintained and tastefully decorated. Knotty pine walls and ceiling throughout. Large stone natural gas fireplace centers an open concept living area with a vaulted ceiling and split-log staircase leading to a loft with extra beds. Tranquil riverfront views of the popular Au Train River. Well stocked cottage with plenty of extras. We want you to feel right at home so that you can relax and enjoy your vacation!
We added new steps down to the river, so you can bring your canoes or kayaks right down!
We are Premier Hosts and very experienced in owning and managing a vacation rental and have a proven track record in providing our renters with a wonderful vacation experience. See our other VRBO property in Florida - #339008. We go the extra mile to ensure people that rent from us have no surprises and leave with great memories. We have lived in the Upper Peninsula off and on for close to 30 years and are excited to share the best of what makes this area an amazing four seasons vacation destination.

ABOUT THE AREA: Au Train is located in Alger County, one of the most scenic areas in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This increasingly popular vacation destination has adventure awaiting in many directions. In nearby Munising visit the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, beautiful waterfalls, Grand Island National Recreation Area, and the Hiawatha National Forest. The hiking, biking, snowshoeing and snowmobiling opportunities are endless. Au Train Lake and Lake Superior have beautiful sandy beaches. Au Train Lake is famous for great fishing and great waterskiing. The Au Train River is one of the safest and most scenic and enjoyable streams in the state for canoes and kayaks. This is the perfect place to get away from it all. Fall Fishing is great in both the many inland lakes of the area and in Lake Superior. Deer and Bear as well as Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock hunting are excellent. In the winter, enjoy miles of groomed snowmobile trails, ice fishing on Au Train Lake and Lake Superior, or perhaps enjoy snowshoeing or cross country skiing through vast wooded areas. In the spring, Woodlands are carpeted with wildflowers and mushrooms peak through the ground. Trout fishing is excellent in the river and numerous streams as well as Lake Superior.

TYPES OF RENTERS WE CATER TO: We love renting to families or groups of friends who love nature and who enjoy experiencing the best of what the outdoors has to offer. We don't rent to groups under 25 years of age. We respect our wonderful neighbors and their right to enjoy their own privacy and expect our renters to comply with Au Train's noise ordinances posted in the cottage (quiet hours 11pm to 7am). If you are looking for a place to hold loud parties, this is not your place. But if you are looking for an amazing cottage with tons of charm to have a fantastic and memorable vacation, look no further!

Peaceful and serene, best for adults
This was a beautiful property and we loved the sounds of nature around us! Plenty of space since there were only two of us, and the house was set up really well with any supplies you could need. Very nice and responsive hosts. I really wanted to give it 4.5/5 stars but didnā€™t have the optionā€¦the only downfall was the TV situation. Part of the fun of travel for us is checking up on local news and weather, however this was not possible as the house has Roku with streaming only (like Netflix, Hulu, etc). It worked out ok but did detract a bit as we donā€™t have much streaming and werenā€™t able to watch any local sports, plus I had to mirror my Apple phone constantly to watch anything beyond Hulu. Also, for smaller children, the backyard is narrow and quite steep leading to the Au Train River. Stunning scenery with lots of ducks (which we loved!!) but no fishing whatsoever (from the shore) and the steepness isnā€™t great for young kids. Overall really enjoyed our trip though, lots of nature hikes and gorgeous scenery!

Home away from home
This Au Train home was truly cozy - a home away from home. Very clean; comfortable beds & couches; great outdoor space for enjoying river views; supplied with everything you could need for a week away. Stayed with husband, adult son & teenage girl; two downstairs bedrooms are small but perfectly functional, master is a good size with convenient half bath attached. Did not use upstairs loft area, which has ample room for twin & full bed, but has sloped ceiling so probably best for kids/smaller guests. Communication with owners was prompt, friendly & helpful. Great local in quiet Au Train, 2 min from spacious sandy beach we enjoyed thoroughly in unseasonably warm weather. Husband brought his fishing gear & had great luck fishing river at bottom of (steep- careful!) stairs-- so bonus! Definitely would return & strongly recommend.

A great location, cozy backyard, and the kitchen was nicely equipped. It is worth noting that grown adults cant stand up straight in the loft portion, but perfect for elementary or middle school ages kids. Nobody goes on vacation to hang out in your bedroom anyway. We had a wonderful stay!

Perfect UP Cottage
We had 3 adults and one toddler staying here and had so much space! We were impressed with how many people could wind up fitting into this cottage. It had all the amenities we would need, and we loved being able to use the charcoal grill and fire pit. The view of the river is really nice. Instructions were clear provided by the host on how to get in and for check-out. We had a couple questions and the response time was great. The location was a perfect spot for us to go to a few different places in the UP. Weā€™re saving this one for the future in case we have another UP trip! Highly recommend this home!

Great location for exploring the Marquette area. The cabin is spacious and comfortable. The kids loved the loft area. The spot by the river is beautiful. We liked it so much that we are hoping to come up this winter to explore some of the cross country ski trails in the area.

Fabulous Summertime Vacay!
Cabin was spotless, welcoming, great floor plan, well stocked with essentials, easy access to Au Train River, and so close to Lake Superior! All beds met our standards (we can be picky about beds). Clean, comfortable & nice linens. Fans & extra blankets for when the weather fluctuates. We enjoyed our family games at the ā€œgame tableā€ and our fires at the fire pit! An overall great UP experience!

Quiet Riverfront Retreat in the Beautiful UP
We had a relaxing and enjoyable week. The Riverfront Cottage is beautiful and was fully equipped for our stay. Located on the gentle flowing Au Train River, allowed for kayak trips up and down stream. Close enough to easily visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Hiawatha National Forest along with Munising and Marquette but set off the main roads for a quiet stay. We will return on our next stay to the north central UP area.

Wonderful family vacation
We had two families of three stay and had plenty of room! The kitchen is full of anything you may need, including a Keurig and a regular coffee maker. It was great to be able to sit and look at the water every morning (but don't go in....lots of leeches!) It was close to everything we wanted to do while there. Thanks for the great stay!

A slice of heaven!
We were incredibly happy with our stay at Mike & Colleen's cottage. The listing is even better than it looks in the pictures. It's wonderfully cozy without being cramped, and spacious without feeling empty. The kitchen is well stocked with the basics. If you're coming with a large group, and plan a lot of home cooking, make sure to bring a few extra bags, tupperware, etc. It looks like the stairs down to the river had been redone recently - they're very nice and an easy walk. The view from the back yard is wonderful. Access to the lake, Au Train, Munising are all super convenient. We highly recommend looking into a pontoon rental to check-out Pictured Rocks. We got perfect conditions on a half day rental, and even got to explore a sunken ship from the 1800's! Mike and Colleen are great communicators. The house was perfectly clean and easy to access with no unwanted surprises. Good luck and enjoy your vacations!

Great "Home Base" in UP
Thank you for sharing your second home with us! We had a wonderful time traveling everywhere from Pictured Rocks to Marquette to Porcupine Mountains. It's truly amazing all of the beautiful sights in the UP. Your location on the river was a great home base, too. Everything was warm, inviting, and comfortable. We certainly hope to be back! The only "critical" feedback I would give is regarding air freshener and scented detergent. Our family is sensitive to strong scents (they can cause headaches), so we would've appreciated unscented detergent and no air fresheners. I'm sure your home smells lovely "au naturel!" Just something to consider. :) Thank you again!
