Sandford Cottage 5 Star Holiday Retreat

Sandford Cottage is located on Southmoor Farm, close to the very attractive village of Hawkchurch in South East Devon and only 5 miles from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast. Southmoor Farm is approximately 40 acres and apart from the farm house, the majority of land remains untouched, apart from grass maintenance. The result is acres of secluded 'wild' areas, including woodland, meadows, lake, ponds and streams for you to enjoy. Apart from being a bird watchers paradise, we can boast a multitude of wildlife with deer, fox and badgers etc. in fact your very own nature reserve.

This very peaceful and secluded cottage was rebuilt in1989 to the original design with local stone, solid walls and a low exposed timber beamed ceiling and has recently undergone a complete interior refurbishment.
Accommodation comprises of a carpeted open plan sitting room and kitchen, modern units, oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The sitting room area with a large inglenook fireplace and wood burner is tastefully furnished with a sofa, armchair, flat screen television and coffee table. A carpeted staircase rises from the sitting room taking you to the bedroom with a roomy king size bed, flat screen television, pine wardrobe and bedroom furniture. This in turn leads you into the spacious fully tiled shower room and toilet, with vanity unit and heated towel rail.
Heating is by electric wall heaters and wood burner with logs supplied without charge.
Due to the secluded location, although available, the dongle internet connection can be intermittent.

Dorset visit
What a wonderful home to stay in. This is just the most cozy, warm, cottage imaginable. It lacks for nothing. The house is on a lovely farm with great walking areas. Pete and Bev are superb hosts, and were happy to offer whatever we might need, while not being at all intrusive. We visit family in Dorset often, and shall definitely hope to stay in this delightful spot again. We cannot think of anything negative to mention!

Perfect cottage
Really good place to stay, wonderful sense of isolation in the countryside, but quick to be on main roads and access all directions. Well equipped, comfortable, very pleasant hosts. A break from wifi was fine for us. uusdigital detox.

Peace and Tranquility
A beautiful, well equipped, clean and comfortable cottage, ideal for relaxing and switching off from the stresses and strains of everyday life. We even lived without the internet for the whole week! Lovely welcome from Pete and Bev, including a variety of ‘goodies’ to help us settle in. Much appreciated after a long drive from the midlands. The remote location is perfect for encouraging a variety of wildlife, the highlight of which was the nightly visits from Mr Badger, eager for his food. Ideally located for Lyme Regis, Axminster and many other towns and villages, we managed to ‘tick off’ a number of locations during our week, including: Honiton, Taunton, Seaton, Branscombe, Beer, Manacute House, Forde Abbey and The Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth. Sandford Cottage is highly recommended for anyone wishing to switch off, enjoy the gorgeous landscape and local wildlife and indulge in a wide variety of restaurants, pubs and cafes.

Pete and Bev give a lovely warm welcome and the cottage is immaculate. The wildlife is literally on your doorstep with rabbits, robins, badgers and deers plus many more. Tiny but comfortable and very, very peaceful
This tiny secluded cottage is in beautifully quiet surroundings. It has a well kept natural garden and pond in an open woodland setting. The cottage is very well maintained and has one ground floor room containing everything needed for a comfortable stay, but with its small windows was rather dark during the day. Upstairs is a bright comfortable bedroom and shower room. Access to the cottage is down a very bumpy lane with a steep slippery gravel slope that our heavy two-wheel drive car found difficult to negotiate; lighter or four-wheel drive cars would find it easier. The very friendly owners were a two minute drive away. The cottage is within a 15 minute drive to a good size supermarket in Axminster and there are plenty of pubs serving good food in the vicinity. I would happily revisit this property.

A fantastic place to stay!
We wanted somewhere peaceful and relaxing to stay, where we could do our own thing and come and go as we pleased. Sandford Cottage was exactly what we were looking for and more. We had a warm and friendly welcome from Pete and Bev, which put us at ease straight away, and when we saw the cottage we were thrilled. It has been lovingly restored to a very high standard and is clean and very comfortable. The attention to detail is perfect, even down to the wine, chocolates and flowers that were waiting for us when we arrived. The woodland and grounds are stunning, along with the ponds and the lake (which you can sit beside with a glass of wine or G&T and feed the fish from food bins). There was also a very friendly (and persistent) pheasant, who was happy to take food from our hands and we were lucky enough to be there for the wren chicks maiden flight too. The central location is perfect for forays into Devon, Somerset and Dorset and is just a stones throw from the Jurassic Coast. The pub in Hawkchurch was great, we had Sunday lunch there and it was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sandford Cottage and have no hesitation in highly recommending it.

A peaceful and secluded getaway!
The property was compact with everything necessary for a lovely holiday. It was relaxing, and an excellent place from which to explore the local area. Our hosts were very friendly and available for any queries, but gave us space to enjoy the property as if it were our own for the week. This was definitely one of the nicest properties we've stayed in.

Perfect. Idyllic. Fantastic place to stay. Great hosts. Abundance of wildlife and tranquil setting.
Fantastic cottage with everything you need for a holiday. Peter and Bev have thought of everything, even leaving peanuts and dog biscuits for the badgers that visit every night (generally around 8.30. You can almost set your watch by them!). Roe deer, very friendly pheasant and lots more wildlife on the doorstep. A perfect place for those looking for a quieter place to stay. You can walk around their land and stop off at the lake to feed the fish or just sit and relax. The pub in the village does great food but it is advisable to book. The cottage is perfectly situated to visit Devon, Dorset and Somerset with many National Trust properties within easy reach and plenty of gardens to visit too. We were asked if there was anything that Peter could do to improve our stay. There is nothing. As far as we're concerned, it is perfect. Axminster is a few miles away if you need any groceries. There is a Co-op and a Tesco. If you like antique shopping it is worth a visit to Crewkerne as there are quite a few shops there. If you're the sort of person that enjoys getting away from the hustle and bustle of today's busy way of life then this cottage is for you. Highly recommended.

A Lovely Cottage in a Very nice spot, With all the wildlife on your doorstep
We really enjoyed our stay here in the cosy little cottage, shame the weather was not better but we had the wood burner to keep us warm, the wildlife around the cottage was superb with badgers, deer, foxes, woodpeckers, jays, tree creepers, nuthatch, warblers, buzzard just to name a few, and a cheeky little stoat that nearly ran over my wellie as i was stood outside the cottage

Sandford Cottage- A delightful hideaway
The cottage is beautifully maintained and is just the right size for two people. The location is perfect for those seeking peace and tranquility without being too isolated from the rest of the world. We enjoyed the visits from the badgers in the evenings and feeding the fish in the small lake. The cottage is not far from the Jurassic Coast and there is no lack of interesting places to visit. Staying closer by, there are some excellent walks and the chance to get the mountain bike out. Peter and Bev were very friendly and helpful. Can't think of any downsides and would definitely recommend to others.

This little cottage has everything you would want for a stay and more...........
The accommodation that this cottage has to offer is outstanding, comfortable and unique. You find everything you need for a stay here. Both Bev and Peter, who made us feel very welcome, have filled this cottage out with much thought and to a high standard. You will find everything here from peace and tranquility to countryside creatures, a badger or two that come for super, to the pheasant that tells you off if your not up for breakfast! This is a piece of paradise in the Devonshire countryside. See you for a return visit in February X

Delightful cottage in a lovely, peaceful location.
What a wonderful place to get away from it all! The cottage was cosy, comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed the evening visits from the badger and often spotted deer in the next field. We found plenty of good walks in the area, both from the cottage and on the coast paths.

PEACE AND QUIET AT ITS BEST
A wonderful small cottage in the Devon countryside. The cottage itself is fully equipped with everything you may need. Wildlife around the cottage included foxes, deer and the nightly appearance of badgers that came right up to the front door of the cottage was a joy to watch. It takes no time at all to drive to the coast at Lyme Regis where you can search for fossils on the beach. I would like to thank the owners Peter and Bev. they made us very welcome. I do not think it will be too long before we go back.
