Comfy bed. Central location .Friendly staff. Breakfast was disappointing....expected a freshly cooked English breakfast, not a buffet type breakfast. The food had been under the lights too long and the bacon was rock hard. Lovely staff serving .

Not good if you've got a walking problem.
I was mid journey so didn't arrive until 23.00. I am temporarily disabled with a stick and when asked if I wanted to use the lift, I said yes. That was a mistake. To access the lift, I was accompanied by a young trainee who didn't have a key for an outside door. He went to fetch it and returned after some time to say it couldn't be found. We went back inside and got to the very small lift. Once on the correct floor, we went from one side of the hotel to the other, often up stairs that I find difficult. I wish that I'd taken the main stairs that I used the following morning when I left at 7am. I feel that this is certainly not a good hotel for someone with a walking disability. I will not return.

Heart of Banbury stay.
Stayed in the centre, close to bars and restaurants. I'm from Banbury, so I knew the area well, whilst visiting relatives. Cheap, clean room for 2 people. Overall decor is for older persons, without being super fancy.

Very disappointing stay and service
I have stayed at Whately Hall on many occasions in the past, but my latest stay was anything but satisfactory. In the first day, the front check in staff were unfriendly and expected that we fit around the fact that they had very little staff to provide a service. The room I had did not even have a telephone, which made contacting anyone for help very difficult. The breakfast on the second day had limited options and when I quizzed the staff as to why they did not have Hash Browns, they simply shrugged and walked off. The fact that my son is autistic and Hash Browns are the only things he eats, I then had to go out a purchase breakfast, despite having paid for it as part of my hotel stay. The hotel is run on a a minimum of staff.

Very good value for money
We checked in late at night and would have liked to have paid by cash but it was card only. Would have liked to have used a lift as I have a leg injury but understand that the hotel is old so it didn’t have one. The room & bathroom was modern with tea & coffee making facilities. The highlight of the short stay was the breakfast, for how little the breakfast cost was it was unbelievable value and very nice. All in all the one night stay was extremely good value for money.

Overnight stay in Banbury
We had a luu in belt room at the back with a partial view of the garden, very quiet and comfortable, had a good night sleep. Breakfast was buffet style but had enough for a full English as well as cereal and pastries, also gad gluten free and decaf coffee on request. Overall good value for money.

Our room was a "suite" mainly ok but carpets worn, a little bit tired. The room appears to have had a superficial makeover but literally papering over the cracks.

Staff were good but hotel in need of alot of work
The hotel staff were amazing but pushed to their limits at meal times as so understaffed and not lead by any management. Our room was good and suited us well. However the bedside light was broken and unable to be repaired by a staff member. Lack of a lift in the main hotel was tricky as my husband has mobility issues and we were on the first floor. But I think we were allocated the room as it had accessible walk in shower. The hotel car park needs resurfacing and tidying up in general as it straight away gives an impression of neglect. Because staffing wasn't adequate the communal areas weren't looked after properly eg replacing toilet rolls in the ladies. I hope that the new owners will quickly improve what could be a great place to stay.
