Its beach is one of the most beautiful on the Biscayan coast and one of the most visited, due to its good security and access conditions. It is protected by the Gorliz bay, with the shape of a shell and therefore its waters are calm. It is ideal for bodyboarding, diving or swimming.
It has a pine forest that is one of the recreational areas that is located next to the beach, where you can spend a pleasant day and barbecue.
The Paseo Marítimo is located next to the beach, and in its final section, in the area called Astondo, we can enjoy bars, restaurants and picnic areas. In Astondo you can also see a phenomenon of high geological value: the petrified dunes, a set of 6000-year-old Aeolian sandy accumulations, which are unique examples on the Basque coast.
The ruins of the Fortín de Askorriaga are located in Punta Galea, and are popularly known as "El Castillito Roto". It was built in the 18th century for the defense of the bay.
The Gorliz lighthouse is located at Cabo Billano and in front of Billano Island. Built in 1990 in an area with extensive views over the coast. From there you can see the remains of a canyon that served to defend the bay.
The canyons / bunkers constitute four firing points, three of them linked together by tunnels, which are located down the cliff. The room, above the lighthouse, consists of two floors. The surveillance post would be located in the upper one, while the lower one, of great amplitude, still preserves a huge cannon axis, so it would be used as a firing point.
