I last stayed here in 20009 when I was attending the Wagner opera festival In Bayreuth. My choice then, as now, was governed by the fact that by the time I came to book there were no hotels available in Bayreuth itself, so I had to take this one.
The hotel itself is fine, very modern, comfortable and welcoming, with the staff's English ability ranging from basic to full conversation. Unfortunately, it is 3 Km out of town, and with only an hourly bus service into town, one has to rely on cabs. In 2009 I paid over €30 each way, explained by the fact that the driver would be unlikely to pick up a return fare, so had to charge both ways. In the intervening years industry has grown in the area and this time he most I paid was €17.50, which included cases. (I should add that if you are going to the opera, each evening there is a shuttle bus service from the front door.)
The food is excellent and I think I can say that they provide the best breakfast I have ever had in an "International" hotel. I also ate in the restaurant on the afternoon of my arrival and had no complaints and propping myself up at the bar on the return from the opera the bar staff knew what had been performed and were interested in my opinion of the performance - singing, orchestral playing, staging, lighting & costumes - and all in English.
