The Sleeping Moose Cottage is located on the North Shore of Cape Breton Island, 8 km south of Cape Smokey, between the Cape Breton Highlands National Park (25 km) and the town of Baddeck (65 km) on the Bras d'Or Lakes.
The North Shore, originally settled by Scots in the early 1800s, is now home to lots of moose, a crab and lobster fishery (May - July), as well as many fine artisans and crafters.
From the deck of the Sleeping Moose Cottage you might see whales and seals, for sure ocean birds, and 'our' Bald Eagle who does a 'fly-by' a couple of times a day. Walk to our pebble beach and enjoy the beautiful view and sometimes-loud silence of the waves hitting the pebbles.
There are lots of hiking and snowshoeing trails in and outside the National Park, and if you like golf... Highland Links is a beautiful 25-minute drive away.
The Sleeping Moose is a housekeeping cottage with a full kitchen, but it is conveniently located on the same property as the Dancing Moose Cafe. It serves unusual breakfasts and lunches bilt around Dutch Pannekoeken (stuffed pancakes), Belgian waffles, a daily soup, and baked treats, all made from scratch in our own kitchen.
We are an all-season accommodation. Start your day watching the sun rise over the ocean. Then, spend a lazy summer's eve on your private deck watching the stars come out. Light a cosy fire in your wood stove on chilly evenings, or in winter when snow has changed the landscape. On rainy days, enjoy a free movie or a bit of surfing with our free wireless Internet.
