A very pretty character hotel but the rooms are little tired. Superb breakfast. Staff were very welcoming & informative. The hotel is in a very convenient part of the town with only a short walk to everything.

We chose Hotel de Orangerie in Bruges to celebrate my birthday, but the experience was far from what we expected of a 4-star hotel. Despite notifying the hotel in advance of my birthday (which they acknowledged), there was no recognition upon check-in, even though my birthday was on my passport. We thought they might surprise us, but nothing came. Even after my husband mentioned it to Corinne at the front desk while asking for restaurant recommendations, there was no acknowledgment or gesture. We stayed in the “Romantic Room with Canal View,” but the windows were so dirty we couldn’t enjoy the view until I cleaned them. The fireplace didn’t work, the lamps flickered due to old wiring, and the bathroom needed extra cleaning. The water provided in reusable bottles appeared unwashed, so we purchased bottled water. On the second night, we moved to the “Heritage Room,” which was a nightmare. The bathroom light didn’t work and was never fixed. The room was filthy, with stained carpets, IKEA bedding, and moldy windows. The heater emitted a burnt plastic smell, and we discovered it was full of dust, trash, and items from previous guests. The showerhead came out of the wall, and the sink was clogged with sludge. At checkout, Corinne claimed she didn’t know it was my birthday and offered water and cookies as an afterthought, which we declined. This hotel fails to meet basic standards of hospitality or cleanliness and does not deserve its 4-star rating.

From the sheer amount of positive reviews for this hotel, it made it a no brainer to book for our night in Bruges. The location is great, not too touristy or busy but easy enough to get the main parts of Bruges. But, I will say while overall it was good, it was honestly just good. For being a small luxury hotel you kind of expect/hope for it being more than good. The doors have no soundproofing so we got to hear the conversations of everyone who walked past which while it was off season didn’t cause too much disruption, it was still a bother. As for cleanliness, the room on the surface looks clean, but the nespresso and cups had dust and dirt in them, and the pillows and sheets on top were clean (the silk cover was a nice touch) but when you peel them back finding stains of all sorts kind of ruins the charm. As for the staff, I think we maybe checked in on a slow night or something. It was all a bit much, like too much almost me on the verge of going could you just let me get to my room. The kicker for me which knocked the staff down was that as a guest I really really really do not want to hear staff gossiping about guests in not an exactly quiet way. The staff in the morning were pleasant and nice but again we were just checking out so it was a quick interaction. Overall, when we come back it won’t be a ‘we have to go back there’ instead more of let’s see where else is available.

The location of this property was fantastic as it was on a quiet street just off the main. As far as cleanliness, our room was clean, but our bathroom was not in due to a large clog of hair in the shower. I flooded the bathroom floor. Not exactly the way I wanted to start off the first hour of our visit. Our room itself had a very undesirable location. We weren’t even inside the hotel proper. And I was told that was because I did not book it directly with the hotel. The people who work there were very nice I just feel that I Wasn’t given adequate information about the room that we were Reserving. Expedia needs to do a better job of that explanation I never felt unsafe But I also never really felt like we were part of the hotel. I thought the lounge was very nice, Quiet and relaxing. After the bathroom flooding incident, no Adjustments were made To our bill.

Lovely but perfumed
The room was lovely, but they sprayed perfume in it and on the bedding. It smelled so strong that I ended up trying to figure out where it was sprayed and stuck all the smelly items in the hall in the middle of the night and tried to sleep with a window open. That meant to 6 am garbage collection woke me. I’d stay again as they fixed it night two, but I’d tell them not to perfume the room before arriving. Hotel staff is fantastic and location can’t be beat.
