All in all, this isn’t a bad location to lodge while visiting Budapest. The location is pretty good. The metro (red), tram (yellow), and bus (blue) Astoria stops are all right by the hotel, so it’s fairly easy to access transportation. The hotel is a bit weathered. It’s still a nice facility overall, but it does show its age. Budapest is often hot, and the AC, in general, isn't really very good - at least to American standards. The Danubius Astoria is no exception. We enjoyed a suite and it was very spacious, including 1 and 1/2 baths, sitting room and bedroom. It was also at the corner building and included three balconies, which opened for great views of the city. The breakfast was standard European fare based on our experience with some local twists added in for a taste of Hungarian dishes. I'm glad we included it with our stay. For the price, it was a pleasant stay, and particularly if some updates to the facilities were made in the near future, I would not count out a return stay.

The staff is very unwelcoming and poorly trained. The manager at the desk cannot smile. He is grumpy and very unwelcoming. The staff reflects this. Location is great. There is a stingy feel to the place.

Bad shower drain
Quaint hotel. Our room was one recently updated and very nice except for the shower. It has a bad drain design and we flooded the bathroom floor. They did send someone to clean the drain but you can’t unplug a bad design.

Grand old property that has seen better days, but we stayed in the wing whose rooms were renovated, so we were totally happy. And the hotel's location is excellent, walkable to the Danube and Vaci Utca. We especially liked the convenience of the Astoria subway entrance just outside the front door. Front desk staff was friendly & efficient. We'd stay here again.
