My husband & I have driven by the McKinley Hotel, Banquet, & Conference Center several times and we've always thought it looked like a decent place. Therefore, we didn't think we had to do our homework and read any of the reviews before booking a room, but we were wrong.
When arriving at the McKinley Hotel, Banquet, & Conference Center, we didn't realize that the hotel part is actually a big old brown building attached to the very back of the facility (barely visible from the road and hard to locate). At first, we assumed we just had to enter the main entrance of the facility to locate the hotel, but it was quite the maze. When we finally located the entrance to the actual hotel 15 minutes later, we checked in and our hotel door would not even open. We eventually found out that the desk clerk had given us the wrong key. The hotel, and especially our room itself, had a very musty/damp smell to it. There was absolutely no warm water, so we had no choice but to take a cold shower in the morning if we wanted to be clean. Plus, you had to really pull on the sink handle if you wanted any water to come out. I was happy about the fact that our room had a coffee maker in it, but when I went to use it, it had a dirty, damp, used coffee filter in it still. Plus, there were no cups to pour the coffee into unless you wanted to drink straight from the pot.
The best part...right before we were going to leave, my husband dropped something on the floor. When he went to pick it up, he noticed some unmarked pills under the bed with an opened, half-full can of beer (yes, with beer still in it). Obviously, there is limited housekeeping in this hotel. And the torn-up curtains were a nice touch too. Upon our departure, we were never asked how our stay was.
