Ocean front Bunkie.

A quiet, off grid cabin experience overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean with stunning views of the famous Bird Islands and scenic Cape Smokey. Enjoy watching the various activity on the water as many sea birds fly by; including eagles as well as the occasional visit of whales and seals. Listen to the calm sounds of the ocean as it hits the shore only feet away from the front steps. This bunk house is fully equipped. The kitchen has running water, a propane cook top and a small solar fridge with freezer. Also available are a wood stove, propane barbecue, fire pit(with wood), and all linen is provided. Queen bed in loft and futon folds out for double on the lower level. There is an outdoor shower with heated water for your convenience as well as a detached outhouse. The popular ‘Fairy Hole’ hiking trail is a short walk away. The Bunkie is centrally located between historic Baddeck and Sydney if you’re after some more urban excursions. The Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a 90 minute drive. But, you will doubtless want to leave once you arrive at “The Bunkie”.

Take it all in!
This is the sweetest little cabin in the most spectacular setting. And Barb is very helpful. Highly recommend a trip here - cabin is cozy and outdoor shower is a treat. Outhouse is excellent with a non-smelly composting toilet.

Stunning rural cabin
The Bunkie is simple and tasteful, and set in a stunning location. It's a really rustic off-grid experience, with minimal mod-cons, but equipped with everything that you need to enjoy your time there. We loved exploring Cape Breton from here, and also sitting looking out at the ocean and the stars in the evenings. We also went to walk in the woods locally early one morning and saw lots of lovely birds. Barb was a very responsive and accommodating host and has evidently put love into the Bunkie.

Amazing experience. Very cute inside and everything you need it was thought out. Loft was so beautiful and sunrise was just there to be seen from the bed. Thank you for serenity and peace. Beautiful view.

Breathtaking property with great amenities. Much more than most “off grid” propeties we’ve stayed at (incl. hot water and a refrigerator). The outdoor shower is awesome, the outhouse is extremely clean, and the view is breathtaking. Especially great for bird lovers like us, as there’s a clear view of Bird Islands IBA from the property.

A great location for a retreat!
