At the heart of Vauxhall Cottage is a wonderful large farmhouse kitchen - a great place to gather and chat with your family or friends. Centred around a big pine dining table, the well-equipped kitchen provides a light and airy sociable space, with views across Chepstow and the Wye Valley.
The spacious and comfortable living room has two sofas and a wood burning stove for cosy evenings. The "under stairs" cupboard is packed full of boardgames. Alternatively, the bright and sunny garden room overlooking the patio is a great place for a quieter moment, perhaps to read or to try one of the jigsaws!
For work or study whilst away, there is a large desk in the private office room, and fast wifi. This study has a tiled floor and is right by the back door, so could be used for keeping muddy boots, pets, bicycles, etc. if preferred. The bookshelf might offer some new reading material too. Also downstairs is a utility room, with a sink and washing machine, and a handy downstairs loo and coat cupboard.
Upstairs, the large master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and a king-sized bed, with far-reaching views across Chepstow, the Wye Valley and the Severn Estuary. The second bedroom can be configured to requirements, either as a double room (with super-king bed) or a twin-bed room with two single beds, whilst the cosy third bedroom has a double bed. All bedrooms have drawers and wardrobes or hanging space. There is a family bathroom upstairs, with a shower and big roll-top bath.
Outside there is a good sized, enclosed and private cottage garden, with an area of lawn. In spring and summer, the patio area can be a real sun trap, and offers a table and chairs and a charcoal BBQ. Guests may be lucky enough to enjoy a stunning aerial display from visiting swifts, especially on the kitchen side of the house.
Vauxhall Cottage has its own covered off-road parking area, with parking for 2 cars or transit-sized vans. A third vehicle can usually be squeezed in if needed. There is limited on-street parking nearby.
The cottage is just a few minutes walk from Chepstow town centre, which offers a variety of shops, restaurants, takeaways and bars. If you are visiting Chepstow for an event, the cottage is very well placed for an easy drive to Chepstow racecourse, David Broome Event Centre, and the local wedding venues at St Tewdrics, Mounton Brooke and St Pierre.
Chepstow itself boasts several notable features that make it an interesting destination, and a great base for a short break or longer visit:
Chepstow Castle: One of the oldest surviving stone fortresses in Britain, Chepstow Castle is a remarkable attraction. Built in the 11th century, it offers panoramic views of the River Wye and the town. Visitors can explore its impressive towers, gatehouses, and walls while immersing themselves in medieval history.
Picturesque Riverside Setting: Situated on the banks of the River Wye, Chepstow enjoys a delightful location. The scenic riverside area has free music on the bandstand in the summer, and is always a popular place to sit and relax. You might be lucky and spot Sammy the Seal, a beloved local resident!
Historic Town Center: Chepstow's 500 year old town centre is brimming with history and character. Its charming streets are lined with Georgian and Victorian buildings, unique shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants.
Wye Valley and Forest of Dean: Chepstow is a gateway to the beautiful Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts can indulge in activities like hiking (on trails including Offa's Dyke Path, Wye Valley Walk or many local walks), cycling (on the off-road Greenway), and exploring the lush landscapes, ancient woodlands, and scenic viewpoints in these areas.
Vauxhall Cottage provides easy walking access to the town centre, riverbank and castle, and is very well located for hopping in the car to explore further afield.
Chepstow is ideal for access to the M4/M48 and M5 motorways, so easily reached and easy for travel to Cardiff, Bristol and South Wales and the West - making it a great venue to bring family and friends from across the UK together for a catch-up. The cottage is located on the "right side" of Chepstow for easy access to the motorway network, and routes to Monmouth and into Wales. Alternatively, Chepstow train station is 10 minutes walk away, and offers direct travel to Cardiff, Gloucester, Cheltenham, and connections to Bristol, etc. The bus station also offers a direct bus service to Bristol, and National Express links to London, Cardiff and Swansea.

Vauxhall Cottage was our family home for 25 years, until we moved a few miles down the road to the hamlet of Stroat in December 2022. Originally the cottage as it stands now was divided into two or three homes for quarry workers. In our time, we added the large kitchen and ensuite bedroom, and the garden room, and joined two smaller rooms into a large living room. As Vauxhall Cottage has recently been a family home, it offers up-to-date facilities you expect, whilst retaining bags of character.
