Second time staying at the Talbot. Our previous stay in June was really good and so I decided to book again for this trip. Overall the hotel is nice with a newly opened bar and restaurant area. Rooms are spacious with 2 beds and a decent bathroom.
This stay unfortunately we noticed some areas which could do with improvement. On arrival (6pm) there were no staff to be seen. We stood at reception for quite a few minutes before a passing staff member went through the back and a receptionist came out. The receptionist was really lovely so this made up for the wait. We were given room 405. On the way to the room we were shocked by the state on the carpets which looked like they had been splattered with bleach all the way up the corridor. Not good for a four star hotel.
The room also had a large stain on the floor which looked like coffee and a strange smell. This soon went with the window open.
The following day we needed a second key card. Again no one on reception so we had another wait till a cleaner went and got a receptionist out.
The following morning we were woken by a smoke alarm going off twice and when it stopped a letter placed under the door stating someone on your floor has been smoking and if they find you smoking in the room you will be charged for the deep cleaning of the room etc. This sounded very accusatory. Considering myself and my husband have never smoked we felt offended by such a letter.
Unfortunately I don’t think we will chose the Talbot again.
