Head For The Hills Glamping Shepherd’s Hut. Pet friendly, mountain views

Explore Carmarthenshire and beyond from our stunning hill top location overlooking Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons National Park.

Head For The Hills Glamping is the perfect base from which to explore South West Wales. Visit majestic castles, picturesque beaches, breathtaking mountains, and vast forests, then come home to a touch of luxury. Meet our alpacas, ponies, goats, and chickens who help us manage our smallholding in an ecologically beneficial way.

The space:

Our shepherd's hut has a spacious living, sleeping, and cooking space, as well as a separate bathroom, with a toilet and shower.

Outside, the balcony has a Ninja Outdoor Oven, as well as seating and a table.

A welcome basket is included with every stay.

Guest access:

You are welcome to explore the grounds, but please do not open or go through any gates (except your entrance gate) or enter any paddocks.

The Grounds:

Animals

We have ponies, goats, alpacas, and chickens. They are all rescues, except the alpacas who were brought in to help manage the pasture in a habitat-friendly way.
Please be careful around all of the animals as they can spit, bite, use their horns, or peck!

Animal paddocks

You are more than welcome to say hello from outside the paddocks, but please do not go inside. Look out for electrified fences (there will be signs).

Access

You are welcome to walk around the grounds; please pay attention to the signs and do not go through any gates except the entrance gate.

The track

The track that leads to the Shepherd's Hut is uneven and can flood in places. Please drive slowly and carefully.

Grass and wet ground

We have high levels of rainfall here so the ground is often wet. Please make sure you have suitable footwear (wellies are recommended) and be careful on wet grass. There may also be standing water in patches.

The Surrounding Area:

Walking on the roads around Mynydd Figyn

The shepherd’s hut sits atop a hill (Mynydd Figyn) and offers stunning views on all sides. To the East you can see Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons and the Carmarthen Fans; to the North-West is Brechfa Forest. There is a short (4.5km) circular route around the single-track road.

Farms & livestock

The area around the Shepherd's Hut is mainly agricultural with some neighbouring working farms – tractors and farm machinery use the lanes and various livestock are present in the surrounding fields (and sometimes lanes!). Please bear this is mind when exploring the area, ensure any dogs are kept on a lead and pick up after them.

Exploring West Wales:

Brecon Beacons/Bannau Brycheiniog National Park:

Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons National Park is home to Southern Britain's tallest peak, Pen Y Fan (886m). The car park at the start of the climb is about an hour away by car. If you're looking for an all-day hike, the circular walk around Llyn Y Fan Fach & Llyn Y Fan Fawr is 13km, and takes in the jaw-dropping views atop Picws Du & Fan Brycheiniog. At 802m above sea level, on a clear day you can see for miles into the Carmarthenshire countryside. The start of the walk is a 45 minute drive away.

Brechfa Forest:

Take in the breathtaking scenery with hiking and cycling trails that wind through the lush surroundings of Brechfa Forest. There are five main car parks, maintained by Natural Resources Wales:

Abergorlech - Woodland walks, a mountain bike trail and an arboretum with a difference

Gwarllt – Easy short walk through beech woodland

Byrgwm – Woodland walk and mountain bike trails for beginners and experienced riders

Keepers – Choice of riverside trail or long walk past huge wind turbines

Tower – Forest walk with valley views and access to trail past wind turbines

Castles:

There are ten castles to visit within a 1-hour drive, with the closest just 17 minutes away. Some, like Dryslwyn Castle, are windswept ruins, offering a glimpse into the past. Others, such as Carreg Cennen Castle, provide more to explore, making each visit a unique adventure.

Beaches:

Pendine Sands Beach boasts stunning coastal views and a serene atmosphere. The sands stretch for miles, offering a picturesque backdrop for a relaxing day by the sea. We also recommend Three Cliffs Bay on Gower Peninsula, Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Other things to note:

Your booking also includes membership to Wanderlust Camping Club, so you can enjoy future stays at a variety of environmentally-friendly retreats across the UK.

Beautifully secluded and quiet
Cosy, warm, pretty and perfectly functional Shepherds Hut in a quiet location with wonderful views and gorgeous farm animals. Definitely recommend for anyone looking to get away from the world and enjoy the many walks available in the nearby area.
