The hillock of Artilla is a characteristic farmhouse in the heart of Tuscia, the area of origin of the mysterious Etruscan civilization, on the border between Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. It is located in the municipality of Castiglione in Teverina, a medieval village 10 km from Orvieto. This particular location offers guests the opportunity to reach the most important artistic centers of central Italy and visit many naturalistic and archaeological sites.
The farmhouse is managed by a sommelier, who did not limit himself to creating an accommodation facility but wanted to create a real educational-environmental farm.
Here you can participate in sensory workshops (guided tastings of wines and cheeses, food / wine matching techniques); follow courses of preparation of farm products (juices, jams, liqueurs, preserves, cheeses, pasta and bread) and courses of environmental education with particular reference to officinal and aromatic herbs.
The company consists of 7 hectares of olive trees, whose ancient plants produce a fine extra virgin olive oil, and vineyards. Walking in the property, partially delimited by a wood full of vegetation, you can observe suggestive tuff caves (presumably from the Etruscan period) where you can relive what were the housing conditions of the local farmers until after the war. We are a few kilometers from the beaches of Lake Bolsena where you can practice surfing, water skiing, sailing and the natural thermal water pools of the famous Terme dei Papi di Viterbo. In the immediate vicinity you can practice sport fishing, go for walks in the mountains and the river; visit the Bomarzo Monster Park, the Calanchi Valley, the Alviano Oasis, the Vico Lake Natural Park, the Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve, the Bullicame Thermal Spring, the Lamone Forest, the Villa Lante Gardens .
