V friendly, v clean, good food. Abit disappointed that heating wasn’t on as it was a cold day despite being June! We also had a problem with the bathroom in terms of smell but they did sort it out 👍

A lovely, characterful old building on the edge of the Lake District, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, helping us feel right at home. It is very convenient as a base, being on the road between Penrith and Pooley Bridge with a direct bus route between the two, going as far as Windermere, and for drivers it is a good place to access most parts of the Lake District, being not far from the M6 and A66, making access to Carlisle and the Scottish borders equally easy. The room was very clean and comfortable and had a nice en suite bathroom, and being situated in a pub we were never lacking for somewhere nice to eat and drink. The cooked breakfasts in the morning were delicious, some of the best we've ever had at a hotel, and very handy for preparing us for the day's adventures.

This was a fantastic find for an overnight stay on our way to Glasgow, wish we could have stayed longer and explored the lake and surrounding areas. The bar and restaurant were very good and the couple who were managing the pub at the time of our stay were excellent hosts. There is plenty of parking and this very old pub has very modern rooms. Would defiantly recommend and stay again.

Lovely old pub. Room a little compact with our dog but fine for one night stay on way to Scotland. Everything clean. Food and drink a little expensive.

A cold night in a fine hotel!
We just needed a room for an overnight stay on 31st March, when it was still cold outside. The heating was off and there was only a thin duvet on the bed so we were frozen! There was also a smell of sewage from the drain in the shower. A pity, because it spoiled what was otherwise a fine visit.

Great traditional pub
What a beautiful traditional pub! Full of beams and roaring real fires, it was a historical gem. We stayed for 1 night as a stopover on our journey to Scotland. The food was exceptional, although a little limited on vegetarian/pescatarian food. Tirril is very quiet and only a short walk to Penrith along the Eamont Way. It's well signposted especially when having to navigate the busy roads at Penrith on foot. Overall, a charming, friendly place. We will return.
