Great place once you get used to it.
The property seems quite a ways out there the first time you head out there but you get used to it after that. The exterior was fantastic. The pool, the decks, and the docks. The inside was nothing to write home about but we just slept there and that was about it. Overall it is a great place if you dont mind a little adventure. Highly recommended

Island Getaway
This was a fantastic place to stay on Caye Caulker. We were greeted upon arrival and welcomed to a clean place to call home for the week. It’s located in a secluded portion of the island, but there is quick access to the town. James and Rainey were excellent host that went above and beyond to make our experience great. This is a very special place to stay, surrounded by very special people. Don’t forget that the pier offers the best view of both the sunset and sunrise. Excellent stay!

Remote hideaway
James' home is a terrific place to stay. Plenty of air-conditioned room for a couple, with a private dock to swim from and watch the stars. Fully kitchen that we used often, and an outdoor screened-in porch for breakfast and relaxing. Walk to town is easy - takes about 20 minutes, but they also provide bicycles that get you there in half the time. Would definitely stay there again.

Perfect Way To Escape
This was our 1st trip to Belize and overall it was a great experience staying here. The unit was incredibly clean and the fans worked to keep things cool and comfortable for sleeping. We loved the bikes and the chairs on the dock! However there were a couple of things that we felt couple have been better. The listing states that you will be provided with a local cell phone. We did eventually find a phone in the unit but couldn't even get it to turn on, so we were never able to use it. Fortunately, we were able to contact James through email and he responded quickly. The listing also stated that there was a coffee pot in the unit. There is a coffee pot, however plug it in and turning it on shut the power off for 30 minutes. It might be better to supply a french press or pour over if the appliances are going to shut the power off. I would recommend this place to my friends!

Remote and peaceful
We enjoyed our stay of 9 days. The property is rustic, with limited hot water due to the reliance on rain water and propane water heater. It is solar powered so no fancy appliances (toaster, hair dryer, etc), but the power and internet worked well. Dock is great for watching sea life and swimming. Bit of a jaunt into town, about a 15 minute bike ride, 25 minute walk. Best part was the caretaker Ana and her husband - kinder more generous folks don't exist. Great stay overall, thank you.

Not quite what I expected
A lot of things not what I expected. Water dock had no canopy as pictured. The solar power set up was very limiting; no toaster, no microwave, no tv. Could not use any small appliances; hairdryer, c-pap machine etc. Cannot flush your toilet paper of any kind. Gross for #2! Man next door is building so all you hear all day is generator, power tools! The road to caya caulker is terrible; so many pot holes, nearly driveable! We stayed 3 days and lost power so we had to leave.

Relaxing and quiet
The location is perfect for anyone that likes to fill their day with activities and have a quite and private location to relax away from the village. The private dock is a great place to spend time and enjoy the beautiful blue sea. The lower suite was nicely appointed, spacious and clean. Bikes or golf cart taxis make the 15 min ride to village easy. James and Rainy were excellent hosts.

Private Paradise
We could not have asked for a better place. Perfect size, great location. The only reason I didn’t give the location 5 stars is there are no lights and you need a flashlight (which the owners provided) or taxi (again the owners provided contacts for one). For us we stopped at a road side market and picked up fresh fruit while in Belize City. Then our taxi driver on the island took us to a grocery store and we picked up some eggs and bread to have for breakfast in the mornings, then did lunch and dinners out. Plenty of great choices. Can’t wait to go back! We highly recommend this listing, James and Rainey could not have been more accommodating and friendly. They really made it a great trip and if you’re up for some snorkeling check out Anda de Wata tours.

Off the grid. On the water.
What a great place! Private dock, deck, kitchen (fully stocked) and bathroom. Completely unplug, jump on the bikes for a 10 minute adventure into town or sit on the dock watching the tides go by. Caye Caulker is a cool town with loads of great food (Godfrey’s has the best ceviche HANDS DOWN!) and activities. It’s very young and loud so to be able to bike 20 minutes to the sounds of the geckos and birds is awesome. Owner is Johnny on the spot with communication. Very helpful Because it’s off the grid, it’s a bit like glamping, so if you’re looking for swimming pools with swan pool toys floating by while you sip a frozen daiquiri in the air conditioning- look elsewhere. If you don’t mind stocking up and mixing your own drinks, the chairs at the end of the dock under the awning are a great place to unwind.

Perfect Place To Get Away From It All!
With this being my first visit to Caye Caulker I didn't really know what to expect. I was overjoyed by my accommodations and level of service provided by the property manager, Darrin! The house is very well appointed and had all the creature comforts one needs while still being an eco-friendly off grid property. Utilizing solar power and filtered rain catchment for water, the property makes very little impact on the environment. Sitting right on the Caribbean, we would have our morning coffee (provided) while we watched sea birds hunt for their breakfast and see an occasional local fisherman have a go at it as well. The bonus however is the fact that Darrin, the house manager, is a trained chef who owns a fabulous restaurant in town and he sources all of his ingredients locally so it is the quintessential farm to fork experience. The restaurant's name is Hibisca and is on the main drag in Caye Caulker. Great job by James and Rainy in building a sustainable vacation spot with service above and beyond. Bravo to all!

Beautiful oceanfront bungalow, super accommodating host!
The accommodations are beautiful and comfortable. I loved the fact it is a green eco friendly neighborhood! James organized our transportation from the airport which made traveling to a new country stress free. He gave us a list of golf cart taxi drivers on a local cellphone to use. Biking to town was a lot of fun. When we return to Caye Caulker we won’t even bother to look for a different place to stay.

An amazing location. Peaceful, beautiful setting. Beautiful view of the water...steps away from door
We loved the property. The house was quaint and had everything we needed. The inside was clean and the little touches made us feel well cared for. Nice hot water from the shower, drinking water provided in abundance. Kitchen suitedour needs and we were happy to find all the utensils we needed..including three potato peelers. :) one of them worked much better than the other two. If you climb to the top of the house, there is a little crows nest that has a breathtaking view. Gives you a great look at that part of the island and we’ll beyond. Our hosts James and Rainy were helpful, pleasant, smiling good people. Truly a great caye caulker vibe to them. Easy to talk to and they both are knowledgeable about things you can do on the island. The use of a couple bikes made our journey even more fun. A short 10 min bike ride through a path to the town was enjoyable in the morning, and even more exciting after dark. Although they provided us with headlamps...we forgot them one night...memorable ride. They have a great dock that stretches right out into the water and pelicans can be seen along the coast searching and dive bombing for fish. Very cool. Place was very secure and while a safe is provided for extra security, we never felt we needed it. Locks in the right places, and word around town is this is a very safe area. Solar powered!!! What? So cool, this was a good point for us. Never felt like we needed more power. Good on these guys for putting this in place. Sitting areas. A couple desks, a table in the kitchen...ceiling fans and a portable fan that made the hot nights easier. Well worth the time to town for me and my wife. My wife even got picked up off the dock for an extra snorkeling trip...sweet! What else can I say...been to a lot of locations like these and James and Rainy are doing things right. Loved it and would come back for sure!

Beautiful, secluded, rustic and very charming.
We were looking for a very secluded quite island spot for my birthday and this fit perfect. Private dock, bikes to ride around the island, it only took 10 min on bike to get to eveything. And when we didn't want to ride, Max would pick us up on his golf cart. Will be back for sure. Thank you James

Paradise view
We just returned from our stay at this location. We spent one evening on the dock and the night sky with all of the stars and moon was breathtaking. We spent a lot of time on the dock and hooked up to a tarpon, caught a small shark, and swam in turquoise beautiful water. Liberty and Greg are so super kind, and I am very happy to have met them. The bed is comfortable and the property is exactly as described. I love Belize and the Belizan people are very welcoming.

A Caribbean Paradise!
Even before we arrived in Caye Caulker, James was johnny-on-the-spot in communicating with us all the details we needed to have in place to make our arrival just as perfect as it could be. From having Domingo meet us at the Belize City International Airport, to having Peter pick us up at water's edge from our water taxi, to awaiting us at the house when we arrived, he couldn't have been more communicative or charming. When we arrived at the house and Peter carried our suitcase to the front stoop, James and his beautiful wife Rainy introduced themselves and took us on a tour of our VRBO rental, the lower floor of the building. They were in residence in the upper floor during our stay, and were just a staircase away when we had questions. The house is split into two different VRBO options, with the upper story having a better view and access to the gentle ocean breezes that cool the place down at night. Being off-grid, there's a back-to-nature vibe to the house, and the considerate guest (we hope we were considerate!) remains cognizant of the rainwater catchment system (6,000 gallons of available water, so take short, efficient showers!), and the advanced solar electricity (keep the floor fan on speeds 1 & 2, not 3!). There's an available widow's-walk platform on the roof of the house, which is a perfect place to watch the sunset from, or go star-gazing with a boat drink in hand. James provided us with bicycles to use during our stay, and we must have put forty miles on those durable vehicles. He provided us with a local cell phone pre-programmed with phone numbers we might need during our stay, from taxi drivers like Peter to bike repair shop, to restaurant delivery services. A well-stocked kitchen allowed me to cook fresh red snapper I bought on the dock from local fisherman, and my partner made a fresh lime pie, using ingredients we purchased at one of the many local grocery stores. There is a private dock available, and we walked out on it several times to enjoy the Caribbean beauty that is life in Caye Caulker. Overall, we couldn't have imagined a better experience, and it was obvious from the very beginning that James and Rainy have thought this experience through completely, solving almost everything before it becomes a problem. They have crafted a paradise on Earth, and we shall always remember our Caribbean vacation, and the two fine folks who have carved out the perfect VRBO at the southern tip of Caye Caulker.

Relaxing and quiet little place right outside of town
We had a great time staying at James and Rainey’s place. It had all the comforts of home and was a short bike ride away from town. James was very accommodating and gave suggestions on places to eat and which guides to use. Caye Caulker is a sleepy little town where you run into the friends you made the day before. We had a great snorkeling experience with Carlos 2.0 and having dinner at Ana and Armando’s is a must. Hanging out at the Split and watching the sunset is beautiful, but you can see a similar view from the end of the pier out in front of the house. Take time to just explore the island and enjoy the village pace. We will definitely be back!

Quiet, relaxing and Beautiful!
This place was amazing for us. The cottage was cozy and offered much of what we needed, the Veranda and dock perfect for quiet reflection, soaking up the sun or reading a book. We had full use of bikes and a quick 20min ride took us to the city center daily for supplies. We only ate out once , ( Hibisca owned by the neighbors and truly an amazing meal) the rest of the time enjoyed preparing our own meals with fresh local ingredients in the well equipped kitchen. Probably not a place for everyone since it is much like dry camping. Rain water is collected in large catchments( so showers are quick), electricity is solar, stove and fridge run on propane and the septic system can not handle paper. So if you are looking for a place to rest and unwind, this is it. James and Rainie are amazing hosts and are quick to help or offer advice when asked. Thank you a bunch, Chris and Lei-Anne Sorrento, BC

Comfortable and relaxing with beautiful sunsets
The apartment was attractive, clean, and comfortable. We were impressed that we were living off the grid: solar panels provide electricity and water is from rainwater collected in giant tanks. Hot water is only available in the shower (and is tricky to regulate) so we heated water on the stove to wash dishes. There is a new dock in front of the house from which we had outstanding views of the sunsets. We used the available inflatable rafts to swim from the dock in the warm water. There were resident pelicans who entertained us. We had access to a rooftop porch with wonderful views. We appreciated the availability of bicycles for getting around the island. We were very glad that we chose to stay at the quiet ,natural end of the island. The owners, James and Rainy were in residence and were very friendly and helpful and responsive to minor problems we encountered. We also benefited from the services of Ron, the property manager. If you are looking for a place for quiet and relaxation, this is it!

Quiet, secluded, but HOT!
We were picked up by a golf cart and taken to the house on the south end of the island. The road to get there had the WORST STENCH and we panicked wondering how we could stay for a week with that smell. (Brown water and garbage everywhere in the mangroves) Luckily once we got to the house the smell wasn't there...except in the bathroom. The house is fenced in which was really nice. The pics are deceiving on here bcz we got the bottom room in the house when the pics show the top view of the house which is gorgeous and spacious, wat nicer than the bottom (we peaked in the windows as no one was staying there and wished we cld have gotten that space instead). Overall it was nice but there is no A/C and it was so hot and humid in May when we went. We were constantly dripping with sweat! Bed was ok. The bathroom smelled really bad. There was a cockroach running around. It was a comfortable place to stay..the bikes arent in the greatest shape and one of the seats was broken and the other got a flat tire. The views from the top deck are amazing and we really appreciated the seclusion and quiet. We spent most days riding to the north side and cruising through town. Snorkeling off the pier at the house we couldnt see much as the water wasnt clear and I got a nasty rash after swimming there for about 10mins. We did some fly fishing and caught 1 barracuda in 7 days fishing off the pier. Much better fishing up by the split. If you are looking for a simple no frills place, this is it! Its cozy and you can cook food in the little kitchen, lay in the hammocks, and make friends with the iguanas and crabs :)
