Property’s History:
Colle’s land was granted from Thomas Jefferson in 1773 to an Italian viticulturist from Tuscany, Philip Mazzei. Mazzei planted vines and built the original Colle in 1773. Around 1930, Colle was disassembled and it’s thought that parts of the home’s exterior were put to use for the renovation of Charlottesville’s Michie Tavern, located a few miles away. In 1939 the Woodward family purchased the property and rebuilt Colle on the original foundation. Today, the wine culture still flows strong through out the property. Directly across the street sits Jefferson Vineyards. Take a stroll over to their two tasting rooms and enjoy the beautiful Mountain View and sprawling vineyard.
