Baan Din Ki is a comfortable stay. Affordable, clean, beautifully decorated in the living areas (though the rooms are not at all awe-inspiring). The main reason I wouldn't recommend this hotel is the weird location and, honestly, the lack of (reliable) internet.
For some context: I am a twenty-something female American who is in her third year of living in Northern Thailand. I stayed at Baan Din Ki for a relaxing weekend in the city.
The hotel is located inside of Kad Suan Gaew: a shopping mall on the lower end of Chiang Mai's luxury scale. Kad Suan Gaew is mostly intended for use by Thais, not tourists, as obvious by the lack of toilet paper in the public bathrooms. The shopping center is connected to a large hotel (Orchid) and an event center. A good portion of the (VERY large) building is unoccupied, including the foyer leading to the hotel (reception located on the 4th floor of the shopping center). Coming and going felt very similar to walking through parking garages: as a solo female, I was on my guard.
The Expedia ad said that there was wifi available, at the very least in public areas. Yes, the hotel provided a wifi login ("to be used in public areas"), but the connection was spotty in availability and low in quality. I ended up going to a local 24 hour coffee shop for their wifi to get wifi that was strong enough for updating my blog and holding a Skype call.
