The Duke's River House

This small cabin overlooks the Canoochee River in Claxton, Georgia. It is the place to reconnect with your family and nature without the distractions of work. The cabin is for couples, solo adventurers and families. The river is great for kayaking, swimming and fishing. Near Statesboro, Georgia and 50 miles from Savannah.

Great fishing!
Games, hammock, badminton, and DVDs movies are available for your use.
Kayaks, small inflatable rafts, and tubes are available for guest to use.
Closest store/gas station is 10 minutes away. Closest Walmart is 25 miles away (Statesboro, GA).
Wifi: Skyroam hotspot. Do not depend on this for work or school deadlines. 1 GB is given upon check in. Extra can be purchased from the host.
The access roads are not "county maintained". You will travel down 1.5 miles of dirt roads. However, my compact car handles it well. You will find it worth the bumpy ride!
Your vehicle will be dusty on a dry day and muddy on a rainy day. You will not escape with a clean vehicle.
Due to the continual upkeep of the property grounds, guest may see host sometime during their visit.
The cabin is located on the river in the woods. Other than the possibility of other guest in nearby cabins, one would feel they finally found the secluded place they needed. It is most possible during some times of the year, one will not see or hear anyone other than themselves and nature.
There is the small community of Claxton, GA a few miles up the road. This city has everything one may need. There is a grocery store, several Dollar Stores, several fast food restaurants and many gas stations.
Savannah, GA, a favorite tourist spot, is only an hour away. Statesboro, GA, the home of Georgia Southern University, is 30 minutes away
There is no public transportation.
No pets due to allergies.
No firearms or smoking inside.
Water has a strong "sulfur" content. Many guest bring their own drinking water.
The river is unpredictable. If it rises to the point of limit access, you will be contacted and given full refund. Winter months are currently unavailable. Upon request, the host will release winter dates.
This is located in a remote area. It will be just you and nature! This is a narrow river with stumps, therefore, only a "small" boat with a trolling motor can be used. This is also sometimes limited. This river is not adequate for jet ski, motor boat, etc. Also, in late summer the river is so low, kayaking becomes more work than pleasure.
A total of 4 cabins and one yurt are owned by Kimberly. These are located in various locations along the river.

Provided bath linens are one set per guest (one bath towel and one wash cloth).
Cleaning fee has not been charged/transferred to guest. Therefore, guest are expected to leave the cabin as received.
It is a simple life. Guest whom are looking for the "resort" experience will be disappointed. White glove and high maintenance guest will not be satisfied.

Relaxing!
My husband and I stayed here for a weekend. We had a very relaxing stay, just what we were looking for! Also, caught a few fish. This place is well stocked with all your daily essentials. The view of the river is beautiful. The property owner is very responsive and helpful. We hope to visit this cabin again or check out another property from this same owner in the future soon(:

Perfect place to unplug
This is our second time renting this cabin and we just couldn't be happier. I can't think of a better way to unplug than here by the creek with the fishing poles and kayaks. The cabin was clean and the Creek was flowing... can't get better than that.

The perfect getaway
From the drive to the cabin to the experiences of the nature around it, Kimberly’s cabin is a much needed experience to those who need to detach from the outside world for a few days. It’s better than what most fancy hotels have to offer. It feels more like home. I am definitely hoping to come back someday in the future.

Two nighter
We expected it to be rustic but a little junkier than we thought. The inside space was nice and appliances and supplies were great. There just was a lot of junk outside the cabin under the building old grills and stuff that seems like they could’ve been discarded and it would look a lot better. And lots of tree work being done with the downed trees all around so not sure what’s going on with that.

Peaceful getwaway
We really enjoyed this little creek house and will probably try and stay there again someday. I would recommend a new mattress in the bedroom as it is older and reminds us of our grandmas, very soft and springy. This is a full mattress and not a queen but this was no problem for us. Well stocked with ktichen utensils and the antenna tv picked up several stations. We also brought along several DVD's as the TV does have a DVD player. Great trip and very relaxing staying next to the creek.

Pictures accurately reflect how the cabin looks. Getting to the property was rough with my little hybrid. Dealt with bugs (cockroaches?? - not sure don't live with them).

Great off the grid relaxing cozy place
: Have off the grid expectations : Kayaking was very fun going up and down the continuous flowing river 🎣🚣 : Lakehouse has A smart TV 📺 so viewing downloaded content on you connected phone 📱was great or you'd have to buy dvd's /VHS 📼 : A/C was great in living area and 🛏 bedroom : fridge was nice and worked great : I left two fishing 🎣 poles & lures for next guest enjoyment :Ms Kimberly was a very nice and friendly lady. i definitely see myself staying at another one of her properties : i also did all store runs and shopping 🛒 on a motorcycle (touring) 🏍 so if i can get back and forth safely and it rained for majority of my stay there should be 0 reason you haven't already booked your off the grid(📶 🚫) stay with ms Kimberly. you get signal at bottom of the stairs closest to the river/body of water

Very private getaway
It’s a very private getaway destination for whoever wants to escape from the day to day boredom and get closer to nature. Description or instructions could be more clearer. Like, well water only is supplied. Bring bottle water if you have concerns to drink well water. Anybody with sensitive stomach might not be able consume the water. I also have difficulty with locking the back sliding door. Literally I had no idea how to lock it before I went to bed. I was wondering if it was just broken or poorly engineered. Other than that. The owner is very nice easy to communicate. I give this review for her to improve her service and bring more business in the future.

Just what I needed
Peaceful, quiet, relaxing. The best way to start my retirement after 45 years of teaching Middle School. I read and napped and then read and napped some more. I did take a short excursion into Statesboro because I lived there the first 6 months of my life and had never been back. I found the house my parents life in and the church my dad pastored. A great time away and a wonderfully quiet place to stay!

weekend stay
We stayed there for my daughter's graduation for Georgia Southern. Owners were very pleasant and gave excellent directions to find the cabin. When we were confused finding it at night on the dirt road, they again were very helpful! Cabin was very clean and decorated nicely.

Vacation with nature!
My husband and I were looking specifically for a quiet cabin on the water where we could kayak, walk, bike and enjoy the evenings around a fire pit. This property accommodated that and more. The serenity of the Canoochee River and listening to the sounds of nature were perfect for the tranquil get-a-way we were hoping to find. Mind you this is off the main roads and if there has been a lot of rain, you may have an issue getting to the cabin, however, the owner redirected us and we had no trouble getting in or out. If we are up this way again, I would be happy to stay at this cabin. The Pressleys

Very quaint, romantic get away
Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed staying here. All local adventures were about 30-40 minutes away. Be prepared to have your car get very muddy! Adding WiFi would be a big plus! We like to binge watch while we’re away. But not necessary! Thanks Kim!
