Rental & location had its pros & cons. We got into town early & Angelique (the owner) said there was no problem with checking in & she already had the AC going (it was a HOT day). Upon arrival, we were confused as to where the cottage was, as it is not on the street, instead, tucked behind other rentals. Luckily Angelique flagged us down & directed us in. The cottage was cute on the outside with a custom welcome sign. The inside was recently modeled & clean. Another added touch was a bowl containing smores supplies. The kitchen is small & had a couple pots & pans, utensils, salt & pepper, plates & glasses. The microwave & fridge were older with some breaks (handle & shelf), but worked. If anything was missing (like a can opener), Angelique was just a text away & very responsive.
The cottage was small for our family of 4 & pup (perhaps because my "kids" are both about 6' tall). Sitting around trying to watch a show at night was a bit crowded. The beds were on the firm side, so not a great night sleep if you're use to a softer mattress.
The lake itself was beautiful when we were driving into town, but the shore was not ideal. I picked this place because we wanted to introduce our pup to a lake, & swim & float around with the family. The water level had dropped & algae & weeds were growing everywhere. There was NO WAY we were going to walk into the lake from our cottage due to what we'd have to walk through. Luckily Angelique has rentals in the water, so we rented the ski boat to go tubing & jet skis. We were VERY hesitant to be in the lake as the locals were telling us not to due to being in a drought & the algae. My husband literally called & talked to the water quality people to discuss the water testing. They of course couldn't guarantee anything. With Angelique's persuasion & some of the other renters on the property who have already been out, we followed through with our rental reservations, had some fun, & never got sick.
There isn't much to do in town. We did go to The Boathouse Bar & Grill for dinner once. Very expensive for what you get, especially when your meals are served in paper baskets & some of the food tasted like it came out of the microwave.
Stopped by the local dog park. Smelled of cigarettes and marijuana. No grass or shade, our dog & I both got a thorn in our foot within minutes.
After 3 nights, we left a day early. We would consider going back when the lake level rises & we'd get a bigger place. Angelique is great!
