A-Frame on Private Mountaintop with Long Range Views

Experience the tranquility of the Smokey Mountains from this 15 acre retreat. You will feel as if you can reach and grab Crabtree Bald across the valley as you relax on the deck or by the fire pit.

[Please Read the "Guest Access" Section Before Booking]

A great base to sample everything the area has to offer: hiking, fishing, skiing, antique shopping, bowling (Cherokee Casino), and much more. It is centrally located between many popular destinations --

Lake Junaluska: 15 mi
Hot Springs: 16 mi
Maggie Valley: 22 mi
Chattahoochee Ski Area: 27 mi

Guest Access:

As I have often been told: "You have to earn that view". This case is no exception. Although I work to keep it in good shape, I have a 1-way gravel driveway that is steep and winding.

>> 4WD or AWD are required all year
>> Tire chains are required in the winter.

A video of the driveway is available in my corresponding VRBO listing (it is under the same name and location), and will be sent to each guest after a reservation is made. Please be sure to review the video and ensure that you are comfortable with the driveway.

Further Driveway Notes:

>> One of my guests measured the grade with their vehicle, and it is 11 degrees through most of it, but 14 degrees on the steepest 200 foot stretch.

>> There is a switchback that will require larger vehicles to stop and back up; otherwise, you cannot make the turn.

At this point, I have done all I can to disclose the driveway details, and it is your responsibility to drive a vehicle that can handle our mountain road and poor weather conditions. We cannot and will not provide refunds to guests for access issues, but will help in finding a solution if any issues arise, so please do not hesitate to reach out.

There is enough parking space for 2-3 vehicles at a maximum; the last to arrive must be the first to leave, as there is no space for one car to drive around another.

You will have the cabin to yourself; it is accessed using an electronic keypad; check-in instructions and a code will be provided during the check-in process.

One of the best cabins we've stayed it. It sits at the top of a long twisting driveway and is absolutely secluded. When you reach the cabin there are no neighbors near and the view is breathtaking. If you're looking for privacy with a view, this is the place. The descriptions of needing 4wd are accurate. The gravel driveway in great condition but is continously steep and 4wd helped prevent the wheels from spinning. My truck is longer and did require backing up at a few of the tighter turns on the switchbacks. Take about 5 minutes to get up the long driveway. The cabin itself sits on the edge of a hill at the top of the driveway. Most cabins talk about being secluded but this is the first that truely was. It's not a shared driveway and the closest neighbor was at the bottom of the hill, you won't see anyone when you're at the home. For being so isolated it was extremely clean and well appointed. There wasn't anything extra that we needed. Internet worked great and we streamed TV. The location was in the middle of quite a few tourist destinations. There are a few little shops near or the drive into town was about 20-25 minutes from the freeway, a gas station, or mini mart. Waynesville was 30 minutes away and has all the major stores. Absolutely great cabin and experience. We hope to be back soon.

Not so private
Unexpectedly, 2 servicemen needing to offload their flatbed truck with materials to build a shed knocked on the door at 10:30 in the morning of our anniversary. Their truck was parked in front of the shed just up from the house and is eye level with the bedroom. I went to close the curtains to realize that there weren’t any. They parked, waited, and paced about their truck for about 20 minutes, one of them walked around to the front of the house to briefly view the hot tub and fire pit area. After they left, I went up to see what they could see from their point of view. It made me cover the window with a blanket. The next night, I saw a white flashing light from the corner of the shed, just above where the truck was parked. The next day, I looked at the shed and noticed the driveway camera. I don’t know how much this camera could see, but there were no curtains on any of the windows facing the driveway/shed. The lofted bedroom window with clear view from the driveway into the queen bed, window into the shower/tub on the ground level, and the entire top bunk of the bunk beds is against the window all without curtains. The unexpected strangers, having no curtains, and seeing a camera that could possibly see inside my bedroom made me feel very uncomfortable. Otherwise, the cabin was found to be clean, well equipped, remote, and with great views.

This property has become our favorite mountain getaway cabin! It provided the peace and tranquility we were looking for. The cabin was very clean and the host provided great communication, including instructions about the lengthy driveway. We absolutely loved the road to get to the cabin, it really allows you to feel in the middle of nowhere + the views are spectacular! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to truly escape reality for a bit. We look forward to booking another trip here!

Super comfortable private cabin with wonderful views. The driveway is much steeper than it looks so if you don’t have 4 wheel drive you are definitely not going to make it up. Overall the place was perfect for a nice little getaway.

Weekend Anniversary Getaway
The cabin was great. Secluded. Quiet. Beautiful. Everything we were hoping for to get some R&R. I was initially hesitant about the driveway and the single window air conditioning unit for the whole cabin. I was able to make the drive with minimal effort in my all-wheel drive 4-cylinder Rav-4, and the window AC unit performed well to cool the entire cabin. We did experience a storm that knocked out the wifi, but it performed well up to that point. Unfortunately, with the storms and general haziness, we weren't able to do any star gazing, but I'm sure in the fall that it is breathtaking. The cabin exceeded our expectations. The cabin was VERY clean, and also to our surprise comes equipped with many items just in case you forget yours and don't want to make it back down the mountain (fans, chargers, first aid etc...). We hope to go back at some point!

Stunning, Cozy Cabin
My husband and I stayed in this absolutely beautiful cabin for almost week in July and we loved every minute of it. We spent mornings and evenings just sitting in the hot tub watching the clouds move through the mountains and listening to the birds. The cabin was very clean, had all the cooking appliances you'd need with some available spices, plenty of extra blankets, great internet connection, and even had some games too! Actual cell phone connection was spotty, but expected given the rural location needed for just stunning mountain views. Definitely pay attention to the driveway instructions (you will be given plenty of extra info with pictures and videos) and take your time; if able, arrive during the day and bring your 4WD/AWD. We are already planning our trip back. While there, we visited Asheville, Gatlinburg, and Big Creek Trail Springs. I would be cautious about bringing larger pet friends; the stairs are smaller and could be a little steep and tricky for big dogs. Overall, it was the perfect retreat to get away from work and the stress of life. Could not give a higher recommendation.

Excellent getaway
Most people comment on the driveway. I grew up in the mountains, so it really did not bother us that much. I actually made it out in our truck without having to back up in one of the very sharp curves. The view is absolutely unbelievable. The house is extremely comfortable and has everything you would need. It is so unique and beautiful, this place is a dream getaway. My sister traveled with us and she stayed upstairs in the main suite. My husband and I slept in the bunkbeds downstairs. Those bunkbeds were absolutely incredibly comfortable. The room was very dark and we got some excellent sleep. The hot tub was super clean and in perfect working order. Thank you for letting us share your home.

One of the best on VRBO. Incredible place. Incredible views. One of a kind driveways! Close to Smokey Mountain National Park. Great experience all around. Took the whole family and had a great time. Had all the right things in the kitchen to cook and enjoy eating in or out on the deck. Even got to see a black bear wondering around on the property!

What a spectacular cabin. Quaint, cozy, fresh, clean and well appointed. The views- unmatched. This is the ultimate place if you want to kick back and relax. We even had a chef come one night and cook dinner for my wife and I, which was incredible. Be sure to take their notes seriously on four wheel drive. The driveway is likely the steepest and longest you'll ever experience. With four wheel, you'll have no problem though. Enjoy!

Wonderful stay and worth the drive!
My husband, baby, and doggo Sadie stayed at the cabin for two days in the Spring. The property was exceptional. The drive way was a pretty intense climb for two city-folk who haven’t ventured to such a remote location before, but it was SO worth it! Everything around the cabin is gorgeous too- the animals and homes and forest. Kyler is an awesome host who communicates well and really seems to care about the quality of the space and your experience. The cabin is exactly as advertised. Definitely book it if you’re even kinda considering.

The property owner does not tell you until after you have booked that you need four wheel and all wheel drive to access it. Also potentially not safe for children to access. When I requested a refund when I couldn’t access the property, I was ignored by vrbo and the owner. Stay anywhere else!

Private Oasis and Gorgeous Mountain Views
We stayed in December, and it was cold! Even with that, we couldn't stay off the deck because of the gorgeous views. When we would get a little too chilly, we would come inside and just stare through the floor-to-ceiling windows. One of the best things was just to turn out all the lights at night, kick back in the recliner and count the stars. It was so peaceful. There is even a porch swing on the lower level that we took advantage of. When ensconced in this mountain hideaway, the only company we had to deal with was the 5 deer we saw trekking up the mountain. It took about 40-50 minutes to get to Asheville, so you will want to get your supplies in town, but this house was cozy, comfortable, and quiet. We brought our two adult children (they shared the bunkroom), but this would be the perfect escape for a couple and is on our short list for returning. Please read about the driveway, because it is daunting and you will likely need a 4 wheel drive, but we (with nearly no mountain driving experience) conquered the switchbacks without having to stop and back up by the time we left.

Perfect home away from home
This was the perfect retreat to unplug, unwind and de-stress. The cabin itself is impeccably clean & well furnished with everything you need - just add groceries! Despite feeling a world away, internet was fast and reliable and water pressure was impressive. And the view - the view is amazing from anywhere inside the house or on the property. We arrived late and had to navigate up the driveway the first time in the dark. A little stressful driving into the unknown given how dark it gets and mention of the driveway in previous reviews but the host's excellent description and map we're spot on and helped tremendously. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning to this property on a future trip to NC!

You won’t believe it until you see it!
This place is fantastic and gave us everything we wanted in a vacation! The furniture is super comfortable. The bed is on the firm side. The view is fantastic and the stars at night are amazing! Just unplug the stringed lights outside to make it super dark. It’s super secluded and quiet. Only heard the dogs a few times when we were outside by the fire. I like to know what’s in the kitchen so I don’t bring things with me that are at the place I’m staying. They have dishes, utensils, good knives, cutting boards, cookie sheets, frying pans up to 10 inches, several pots, mixing bowls, baggies, foil, plastic wrap, multi cooker, crockpot. What is written about the driveway is accurate. It is steep and curvy. Our suv has hill assist so going down was pretty easy. It’s a little stressful if you aren’t used to driving gravel mountain roads. Definitely do not arrive in the dark! I can imagine it might get a little warm in the middle of summer with only having the one window ac unit. But it was nice and cool when we were there end of sept. Hope we can visit again very soon!
