the room is ok but not very modern. The hotel is too big for hotel guests as a lot of walking to get to the leisure club and reception. That said the pool was great

Family break at Cranage Hall.
As is often the case with stately home hotels, the grandeur is in the main building where nobody actually stays. Regular rooms are in out buildings and really far away from facilities. The facilities however were fab! Pool was great, steam room wasn’t working which was a shame. Changing room facilities were great. Outdoor games were a brilliant added touch(giant Jenga, connect 4, table tennis) but the best part for us was star gazeing in the secret garden. A brilliant gazeing kit was available for free from reception. The grounds are lovely to explore and plenty of parking available. All staff were really friendly, especially Ian the concierge. We had breakfast each day which was very well presented, lots of choice and plentiful. Our room was a bit tired looking but beds were super comfy. The bathroom was clean however the plastic non slip bath mat was very grimey. Overall our stay was enjoyable and we would recommend.

Not what we expected
I don’t think the room was worth what we paid for the upgrade. I’ve been to better bathrooms in premier inns , the breakfast that we paid extra for was very chaotic no tables as all the empty ones inside hadn’t been cleaned away we had to sit outside on wet chairs. No cutlery or salt and pepper. My husband asked a waitress for them and she just pointed and said they’re over there he said where I’ve looked and she just walked off. So our breakfast was freezing by the time we came to eat it. The tea and coffee was in a room before the restaurant and it was too far from where we were sat. The lady who checked us in was really polite to the elderly couple before us told them everything. We didn’t get the same welcome we felt like we were an inconvenience to her. There was a wedding on we couldn’t enter to check in as they were having photos outside the main doorway. They we had to keep walking through the wedding party to get to our room. It felt really awkward. It was our 10 year wedding anniversary and I’m gutted we didn’t stay somewhere else.

Very let down by this hotel, from the off at arriving at reception not being informed of where the breakfast room was & what times breakfast was being served. Gaining entry to the room, no which was far too hot, finding out that there was no air conditioning or room temperature control. Bathroom had no fan, the box of tissues had 4 tissues in it & for our 2 day stay there was 1 and a quarter toilet rolls. Plus no mini fridge in room!! 4* hotel I would have expected one. We left to go to Liverpool & a premier inn, which had air conditioning & a mini fridge. On checking out at reception our room key was taken & told to have a nice day!! No how was your stay, nothing.

Beautiful building and grounds, so clean and tidy. Greeted by Sharn at reception who is so helpful and nice and made sure we had everything needed during our stay, including some lovely history on the building. Well worth the stay and will come again.

This hotel was booked for its location and facilities. We had a two night stay taking in shopping days in both Manchester and Chester. The hotel itself is very upmarket, set in its own grounds with access to leisure facilities to help you unwind at the end of the day. It’s been very well modernised throughout, the rooms are very clean and well presented and the staff are very helpful.
