'As happy as God in France' at La Chartreuse du Maine, unique estate in Dordogne

LA CHARTREUSE DU MAINE:
La Maison de Marc is one of the three independent luxury gites located in the outbuildings of La Chartreuse du Maine, an early 18th century delightful Manor. Here everything breathes Peace, Harmony and Beauty. The estate of La Chartreuse du Maine encompasses 27 hectares (63 acres) of gardens, meadows and woods with many pathways, on the edge of the peaceful village of Cubjac. Within Le Maine you will enjoy relaxing in a lounge chair by the sunny swimming pool that overlooks the estate.
Located in the centre of the Dordogne region, La Chartreuse du Maine is the perfect relaxing base to experience France, get to know the Dordogne, go in search of 350,000 years of history of mankind, discover local gastronomy and wines, and be “happy like God in France” in a peaceful, bucolic atmosphere.

LA MAISON DE MARC :
This 2 bedroom stylish cottage, La Maison de Marc, is the detached farmhouse of La Chartreuse du Maine. This south-facing house has recently been restored to a high standard, preserving most of the original features. Tastefully furnished, this cottage includes a living room, a kitchen-dining room and a bathroom. All the ground floor rooms open onto a private flower garden and woods. Outside, on the terrace there is outdoor dining furniture and a BBQ for delightful meals under the old oak tree. Everything inside the farmhouse and outside in the estate: terraces, gardens, vegetable garden, speaks of a French ‘art de vivre’ in the bygone days.

THE VILLAGE OF CUBJAC:
The shady tree-lined entrance to La Chartreuse du Maine is on the outskirts of the village of Cubjac, which is in the Dordogne region on the banks of the peaceful Auvezere River. You can easily walk to the village center for a drink at a café or to do your shopping at the local bakery and general store. There is even a farmers’ market on Fridays with fresh local produce all year round, and hand-made regional crafts for sale in summer.

THE REGION AND 'PÉRIGORDINE LIFESTYLE:
It is not pure coincidence that man has been living in this paradise for over 350 000 years. When strolling alone in the superb unspoilt countryside you can just imagine why. Often, mostly in low season, you might catch yourself thinking the Dordogne has not changed at all. The joy of holidays in Dordogne is that nowadays you still can fully indulge in that ‘simple art de vivre’ which all these cultural and historical sites speak of. The Dordogne is synonymous with gastronomy and life in Perigord revolves around markets, recipes, seasons of mushrooms, truffles, foie gras, walnuts, goat cheese, strawberries, wine harvest. Everybody here has a kitchen garden to grow their own preferred vegetable varieties. Every woman has her old secret recipes, a family heritage.

Dream Cottage in the Dordogne!
The cottage at Le Maine was absolutely breathtaking! Surrounded by forest and flowers each morning was like waking up in a dream. My husband, baby and I enjoyed early morning walks to the village bakery only 10 minutes away, evening swims in the stunning pool and playing in the garden with the chickens. Catherine and Max are amazing hosts and made us feel very welcomed. Highly recommend!!!

Such a beautiful place to stay. Amazing
We stayed for two weeks in the old farm house which has been stunningly renovated. The Chateau has amazing grounds to explore and a wonderful swimming pool. Right on the edge of Cubjac it's is perfectly placed to access all the amazing places in the Dordogne but slightly off the beaten track so more French than a tourist hot spot.A quiet and peaceful place to stay with wonderful hosts. Perfect.

Charming
Just back from a delightful week in this enchanting patch of heaven on earth. Our hosts Catherine and Maxence couldn't have done more to welcome us and ensure our stay was perfect. We didn't move far from the house and village making made full use of the pool and the charming outdoor spaces and found a sense of much needed peace and relaxation. There is something magical about this place. We would like to think Catherine's grandmother would be very happy to see that the La Chartreuse magic lives on. Hope to return one day.

An oasis of calm in a sea of green.
This is a very attractive cottage on the edge of a lovely village. There is much to see and do. Our hosts made us more than welcome. They could not have done more for us and, as a bonus, we were adopted by their lovely cat. It is somewhere visitors come back to regularly, and we can quite see why. We can thoroughly recommend it

All we had hoped for.
Better than the average rental cottage by far. Lovely meet and greet, and everything was explained fully. We were also given great ideas of what and where to go . The cottage was beautiful with much attention to detail, very scenic and private. Clean!!! A super visit 9/10.

Relaxing in Dordogne
Our family just completed a 6 night stay at this beautiful property in the Dordogne region of France. The stay was a perfect blend of relaxation and sight-seeing as it was the tail end of a 15 day trip with 2 toddlers who were more than ready to escape the constant grind of a new hotel each evening. The cottage was cozy and well equipped, with an abundance of french country charm. It was an ideal size for our family of 4. It also had a nice outdoor space to wander, including a nice walking trail that our kids enjoyed multiple mornings. The owners are extremely warm and helpful. They were always available without being intrusive, and even arranged a truffle picking outing for us that we enjoyed immensely. The area itself is incredibly scenic and despite it being the winter season, there was plenty to see. Highlights for us included the Castle Beynac and Sarlat. We travel frequently and found this property to be among our all time favorites and are already hoping to return when the leaves return. We highly recommend the Le Maine property in Cubjac.

A little piece of paradise!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely property in Cubjac. The house had all the charm and conveniences that you could hope for. The cottage was immaculate, had great appliances, comfortable sofas, and a huge bathtub. The internet service was strong and fast, and cell phone reception was excellent. The private garden with its quiet setting and dappled shade was very peaceful and welcoming. Catherine and Maxence could not do enough for you, and we very much appreciated their warm hospitality and expertise of the region. Their restaurant recommendations and itineraries were especially helpful. All in all, this was a delightful vacation! R & L

Warm, beautiful, and restful escape
We absolutely adored our one week stay at La Maison de Marc, which finished out our 3-week vacation in France. We chose this place based on the glowing reviews, which are 100% correct! Because we were a little road-weary, we spent most of our time in or around the house itself reading, preparing meals, sampling wine and cheese, hiking around the grounds, and sitting by the wood fire in the evenings. Catherine and Max were extremely welcoming and accommodating during our stay, and made some excellent recommendations that helped us have a really enjoyable time. The cottage is gorgeous, and is easily one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. The pictures really don't convey how warm, cozy, and spacious the cottage is (especially when the wood fire is lit!) The kitchen was also furnished really well for both food preparation and cleanup. One of my favorite parts is that in the backyard, a wooden gate in the stone wall leads directly to the hiking trails in the forest. Fun! Dordogne is absolutely stunning, and we enjoyed scenic drives and going to several markets. The village of Cubjac is both convenient and lovely, and the boulangerie in the village has wonderful baguettes and pastries. We barely scratched the surface at what all you could explore in this region. Would recommend this place without question!

Cosy in Cubjac
La Maison de Marc is a stunning cottage in an idyllic location close to the village bakery and small supermarket. The decor is delightful and the bed linen and towels are of the finest quality. The Internet connection was fast and there is a well-equipped kitchen with large fridge/freezer and all utensils required to prepare and cook a gourmet meal. The living room has very comfort-able armchairs and a sofa in front of a lovely log fire. The bathroom was beautiful with views into the woods, an unbelievably powerful shower and a nice large bath. Although there are 2 further cottages at the property, all the cottages are extremely private and you are not even aware of other guests. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, interrupted only by birdsong and the occasional owl, and loved walking or running through the private woodlands directly behind the cottage. The owners, Catherine and Maxence, were very welcoming and provided us with maps and information on local markets, etc. We would definitely be happy to stay at any of the cottages at Chartreuse du Maine when we are next in France.

A wonderful, relaxing week in the Dordogne, staying in a beautiful, authentic cottage.
La Maison de Marc is a gorgeous, very well equipped holiday home. The cottage is tastefully styled, there is a private garden which you can sit/eat out in. The pool area is very relaxing and welcome on a hot day. Catherine and Maxence were wonderful hosts, they made us very welcome right from the start. They are both very knowledgable about the area and can give you lots of advice/tips. Catherine and Maxence also speak very good English! The strawberries, goats cheese, walnut bread and of course the local white wine were a much appreciated arrival gift. Cubjac has a very good boulangerie, great bread, croissants and cakes. During our stay we visited several places, Domme, Brantome, Perigeux, St. Jean de-Cole, La Roque de St. Christophe and even canoed down the Dordogne river for 9 kms from La Roque Gageac. There is of course plenty more to see and do.

gemütliche Unterkunft in ruhiger Umgebung

Last not least: Cathérine und Maxence!

A bientôt

Ausstattungstechnisch ist dieses Urlaubskleinod state of the art.
