Our Off-Grid cabin is just 15 min. from Letchworth State Park. Cabin Creek Hide-Away features a secluded, rustic cabin right next to a cascading stream with beautiful waterfalls! With 100 acres of private forest, trails, and abundant wildlife, you can get away from it all, and be alone with just the people you enjoy spending time with! Even though there is no electricity at our cabins, we have provided all the comforts of home (no TV, sorry) including an LP gas refrigerator and heater, solar lighting, on-demand heating for hot water, and a composting toilet in the bathroom.
THE SPACE:
Our cabin is on 100 Acres of private forest with several water falls on a cascading creek!
Terry and I thoroughly clean the cabin ourselves in preparation for your arrival, treating ALL surfaces with anti-bacterial cleaners, including our mattress pad & pillow covers. When you come to our 100 acre private forest, you and your party are the only ones there. Our other cabin is a half a mile away. Your vacation stay here at Cabin Creek continues to offer what few other destinations can.
Our beautiful, knotty-pine cabin is off the grid, with options for rustic living with modern conveniences. The cabin is solar powered which provides convenient 12 volt electricity for lighting and recharging electronics.
An old-time, natural heating wood stove turns the coldest of winter evenings comfortably cozy, but the LP gas furnace offers another convenient option.
Cabin Creek feels like stepping back in time with your favorite people, but with the comforts of an indoor composting toilet, hot showering, and 1/2 size refrigerator powered by LP gas!
Bath towels, wash cloths, and kitchen towels are provided as well as a percolating coffee pot, fully equipped kitchen, firewood for heating the cabin during the winter months, and a small library of outdoor & self-sufficiency books provided. Campfire wood is available for purchase.
We encourage and prefer our guests to bring your own bedding to put over our fresh, clean pillow & mattress covers, but bedding is available at $15/bed, payable on arrival. Please let us know if you are requesting bedding.
Be sure to check out our other cabin on this travel site: CABIN CREEK GETAWAY. It's located one half-mile mile away from this one, perched up on the Southern rim of Cabin Creek Ravine.
Note: During the cold winter months is our Dry Cabin-Camp Shower Season. Due to our exposed plumbing, there is no running water available inside the cabin during the months of October through April. Water is brought in for you, with dispensers provided in both the kitchen and bathroom. A camp shower is provided in the bathroom, and with water heated from the stove, hot showering is still available. Our composting toilet remains unaffected by winter weather.
GUEST ACCESS:
During the winter season, we maintain the road leading to the cabin, so no matter how deep the snow gets, you can drive right in to the secluded site! Our snow removal is provided compliments of John Deere!
Our guests enjoy relaxing so many different ways here: Inside the the beautiful knotty-pine cabin, visiting out on the large covered deck, sitting in front of blazing camp fires, exploring along the half mile of cascading creek & waterfalls, getting out on miles of hiking trails, and seeing the abundant wildlife - 100 acres all to yourself! Adventurers will enjoy going down the 100' climbing rope to view the hidden water falls... the only way to find them!
Note: We do not accept Assistance Animals in our space due to a health/safety condition of one of the hosts. Assistance animals create a health or safety hazard to us.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:
Upon arrival, guests will be greeted for an orientation to the cabin, the property, area restaurants, and attractions in the surrounding area, which include Letchworth State Park, The Grand Canyon of the East. Dave and Terry live on the farm down in the valley, just a quarter mile away, so we are always available to respond to the needs of guests.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
The very best thing about the neighborhood is that there are no neighbors! The cabin is situated off a seasonal use road, right at the mouth of Cabin Creek ravine. Aside from the occasional vehicle traveling the road, you won't see or hear anyone who is not in your party!
We deliver a wonderful semi-wilderness experience in a rugged area that is sparsely populated and seldom traveled.
We like to joke that the Cabin Creek night-life is dominated by the wildlife... but that's no joke! In addition to the ever-present squirrels, chipmunks & racoon, it is very common to see deer and wild turkey in our forest. The yipping-howls of coyotes are commonly heard after dark while guests sit around the campfire, and seldom-seen bobcats can be heard calling in the night several times a year. Very rare pine martin have been spotted on the property, along with bald eagles & great horned owls. Bears do frequent our area, coming from the 7,700 acre wildlife management area across the valley. Believe us or not, during the 2015 deer season, Eastern Timber Wolves were observed as they passed by 2 different tree stands. Their extreme size and long, low howls heard along the base of the ridge confirmed they were definitely not coyotes! So if you're looking for an experience in a wild area... this is as wild as it gets in the entire Northeast!
