Sadly even though there was a better room available they didn’t offer an upgrade, even though we were probably the last people to check in for the night, and there was atleast one nicer room available. The bed and pillows didn’t seem to be of a quality of a hotel that I would rate excellent and the noise from the room above us was very audible. For breakfast we ordered fresh orange juice from the room service and a fruit dish, but the juice was not a fresh pressed juice and the fruit was quite bitter. Overall the staff was nice and the accommodation was clean, I just wouldn’t give it an excellent rating due to the room comforts lacking and the noise factors.
Beautiful property, extremely well maintained with very nice staff. Restaurant was very good though quite pricey. Only con was its location, quite a long walk to downtown area and very close to a busy unattractive stretch of highway.
We stayed at the Hotel Grano de Oro to celebrate my 60th birthday whilst in Costa Rica. Mr Marco Montoya, ensured that it was an occasion I will treasure forever. Nothing was too much trouble and the whole experience from the room and everything provided within it, to the fantastic birthday dinner proved this is an exemplary hotel with exemplary staff. We will definitely be back, as such an incredible hotel is not easy to find.
We have stayed at Grano do Oro over 15 times since 2006. Every stay has been outstanding. The hotel is a romantic's dream. The restaurant is beyond outstanding. Perhaps this is the last place in Central America to represent the old work era. If you do not book a few nights at Grano de Oro, you are missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful grand exterior and very interesting breakfast menu. Everyone we met was extremely polite and kind, which we appreciated after a very long 2 days travelling. thank you! Sadly quite a bit of the hotel was being renovated so we weren’t able to access it but the parts we saw very very nice.
A bit of relatively quiet luxury, in what is often the dusty and humid city of San Jose. Except for the absence of a swimming pool (they have two Jacuzzis on the roof instead), it is a lovely hotel.
This is now one of my favorite hotels worldwide. A classic colonial, wonderfully restored. Excellent kitchen. Great for staying there before going to the airport, only 35 mins away for a great finish to a CR vacation!
VIP member and received quarter bottle of wine rather than whole bottle as entitled and expected to sgare with travelling companion.
Breakfast only allowed for ONE cappuccino even though it cost $27! My companion paid $14 for same experience paid separately. Totally outrageous situation
