Vipers Quay - a secluded waterfront property with wonderful views of the R. Dart

Superbly located directly on the banks of the River Dart, Vipers Quay is a wonderfully located 1960’s boat house, sleeping up to 12 guests. The spectacular living room is the focal point, with fantastic views over the River Dart and across to Greenway (Agatha Christie’s home) and the village of Dittisham. The huge room is open and spacious, with plenty of comfortable armchairs and sofas where you can relax and enjoy the changing light over the water. There is an open fire at one end of the room, with logs available for winter visitors. At the other end the dining table comfortably seats 12 guests.

Outside there is a garden running alongside the water, leading to a woodland area, and a BBQ and two picnic tables where you can eat out in the summer. A spiral staircase leads up to a sundeck on the roof with fantastic views out over the river where you can catch some rays while watching the boats go by. In front of the house, the private jetty can be used for crabbing or to launch a canoe or paddle board.

There is ample parking and the house is all on one level, meaning it is suitable for wheelchair users (see access statement). Pets are welcome.

Fabulous spot!
This is an amazing house in a fabulous spot! A real Wow factor view and cozy house all on one level. Great for lovers of river life/nature watching. You need a car to be here, but it’s also lovely to stay in and so calm and quiet. Really lovely. Very well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Lovely log fire. It’s not a modern/shiny kinda place and quite quirky in some ways but we thoroughly enjoyed our 3day stay over Christmas. We enjoyed our stay.

Fabulous situation and stay in a fabulous place. We were there for a 90th/60th/30th birthday celebration for family and VQ fitted every requirement. It was clean, tidy, well equipped, spacious for us all, big living room area and had very comfy beds and most of all, a spectacular view that you just can’t pull away from. Intend to stay again so we can make the most of the waterside access. Highly recommended.

Amazing view
We stayed for a long weekend when the weather was terrible but we still had the best time. Celebrating my mum's 60th there were 12 of us total us the dog! Great peaceful location with a great view. Local village for a pint was nice and a log fire in the evening made it a great trip to get the family together. Host Felicity is great, very good communication and helpful in every way.

Delightful
The property is supremely relaxing. It has a lovely feel to it, not at all like a usual holiday rental - rather a home from home with a stunning view. The owner is very nice and responded quickly to emails and questions. It easily accommodated guests and has a great entrance hall which coped with holiday stuff. This left the rest of the house free of clutter and dirt. The garden is splendid, and the jetty and mooring meant we could sail off instantly at almost any tide. We did not use the car at all, and went everywhere by boat. Cool. Would stay again and again.

A holiday home for all ages
Vipers'Quay certainly has the 'wow' factor being literally on the river. A lovely house with wonderful views, clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Also a beautiful garden running alongside the river, perfect for relaxing or BBQs. Full use was made of the quay for fishing, crabbing, kayaking, swimming etc. The property is ideally situated for visiting the numerous places of interest in the area … accessed either by boat or car. A fun and lovely place to be.

Enchanting family holiday home with mesmerising view.
This 1960’s boathouse is a charming family holiday home. We were a group celebrating birthdays for a 6 year old and 70 year old. Viper’s quay was a perfect place for a week of creating happy family memories. Crabbing off the jetty. Boat hire. Barbecue. Deck chairs in the garden. Reading Agatha Christie’s books while glancing across to her holiday Home on the opposite bank. Dogs running through the wooded waterside. The noise of the steam train travelling past. And always that incredible view of the river Dart and the bustle of little boats. Just the spot for making memories.

Paradise on The Dart !
Without doubt, the most amazing location on the River Dart ! If you want tranquility and relaxation, Vipers Quay is unbeatable. My family and friends spent 2 wonderful weeks here, resulting in nothing but praise and admiration. Vipers Quay is able to offer all the requirements needed in a large family holiday home, with the added bonus of being ideal for dogs. Set in the most glorious countryside, on the banks of the river, you can quite literally be ‘in your own little world’, yet easily accessible to the local shop, pubs, and regular water taxi to Dartmouth. The accomodation is both clean and facilitating, with space to comfortably absorb the largest of families. Unique in every way ! CF

Surpassed our expectations
Stunning location and very well appointed house for a family group. We enjoyed relaxing around the house and grounds as well as walking to Dartmouth and catching a ferry back. We recommend the Ferry Boat Inn for good pub grub!

A wonderful property - exciting to travel mostly by water instead of road.
We are a group of 8 elderly walkers, although one is now unable to join us on long walks. The house and facilities were perfect - what a treat to have such a view across the river. We phoned for a ferry boat to collect us from the pontoon outside, which took us to the opposite ferry stage, a shuttle car drove us up to Greenway. The second trip was by car to Little Dartmouth where we set off for a coastal walk to Dartmouth Castle and back - about 4 miles. One of our group is an expert canoeist, who really enjoyed her trips on the river, from our jetty. We enjoyed evening meals at The Ferry Boat Inn (you can park on the small beach when the tide is out).

The perfect place for a relaxing holiday
We have just come back from our second visit to Vipers Quay this year, and no doubt we will return again next year. Having been there a few times in the past we never grow tired of the superb views and location. It's such a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The owners are always very helpful and considerate and the locals are always very friendly. Dittisham is a lovely little village and the house itself is in a perfect location. A fantastic place to escape for a relaxing time.

Spacious Riverside home
Vipers Quay is a spacious, comfortable home perched on a wide bend on the River Dart. Large windows display the river scene, with Agatha Christie's elegant house, Greenway, visible on the opposite shore. Dittisham, the local village, is a short drive or long walk away. There were only four of us, but the house would easily accommodate a larger party--families or groups of friends. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. The dining and lounge areas, surrounded by those windows and an outdoor walkway, are spacious. The bedrooms are comfortable. Everything--heating, dish and clothes washers, hot water, etc.--works perfectly. The house is immaculately clean. Vipers Quay is particularly suited for those who want to spend much of their time enjoying the house and its immediate surroundings. You can take the ferry to Dartmouth and to Greenway, across the river. Driving anywhere means experiencing what people in Devon seem to regard as roads. I found it part of the fun, particularly with the hedgerows in bloom, but be aware that those hedgerows often allow only one car to squeak by. Staying here is particularly pleasant because the hostess is so generous and helpful. From the first inquiry through various questions we had until we arrived, she was most responsive to our questions and needs. We also much appreciated the welcoming bottle of Chianti DOCG. So, with a nod to those pesky roads, I can't imagine that there's a better place to stay in this particular part of the world.
