Excellent hotel, next to hell valley walking trails. Perfect for onsen enthusiasts. Very helpful staff who solved a difficult travel problem that we had due to very early departure. Beware that the local taxis don’t start work till 07.00 am. That’s a problem when there are trains departing the local town 4 miles away b4 this time. Made a reservation with meal included for 4 persons: 3 adults and 10 year old. The hotel said that the reservation is for 3 adults and a 2 year old and demanded that we pay for extra bed, breakfast and dinner. We told the hotel we made a reservation for 4 people and showed the reservation confirming for 4 people and refused to make bed for 4 people unless we pay the difference. We felt angry and cheated and the hotel was so focused on stealing our money that I felt no point of wasting time and efforts. I offered some resolutions such as canceling out breakfast meals already paid for but the hotel told us we can not cancel and demanded that we pay for one more person. At 11:40 pm I had it and I told them I will pay the difference and they told me they will make another bed. I told them 3 others are sleeping now and it is too late. They did not really apologize for the inconvenience and I had to mention it was really inconvenient and the hotel should apologize for it. Finally they apologized but I still feel ripped off and it caused the inconvenience. One person had no pillow and sheet and had to sleep on sofa.

A lovely stay, highly recommended..Kaiseki dinner and buffet breakfast were fantastic, good variety and high quality food. The grand bath was impressive, many different baths to choose from and facilities were well provided for. Very close to hell valley and souvenir shops.

We enjoyed our two night stay at Dai-Ichi Takimotokan. Check-in and parking were easy. We had an updated western style twin room with a view of the courtyard and found it to be spacious and comfortable. Beds were on the firm side. The public baths were a wonderful experience and we went all three days that we were there. The hotel public areas and hot springs are a little tired and could use an update. I especially enjoyed the outdoor pools early in the morning when it was quiet. We had breakfast and buffet dinner both days and there were many options but they were the same both days. The food was fresh and good. They feed a lot of people in a short period of time so the dining room can be a little noisy. We had to pay for drinks (even soft drinks) as they were not included in the price. Overall, this was an enjoyable start to our first trip to Japan and we would recommend staying here to others.

The room I booked was traditional Japanese style tatami, so expect a bit of the wooden smell. Room was just big enough for fitting a table and 4 futons. We had buffet breakfast and dinner and the quality was great with plenty of variety. The onsen was crowded if going in the afternoon so choose either indoor or outdoor one based on the condition and your own preference. There is also a swimming pool underneath the floor for the onsen so kids would love it because it has a water slide.

The property is beautiful and the staff welcoming and caring. The rooms are large, beds comfortable and food excellent. the little town is nearby and Jigokudani, too, is easy to reach. Overall, it’s an excellent choice! Only downside was theJR station is old, w/o elevators. We had to lug suitcases up a stairwell and down the other side. Not fun…!
