Highland Rest is a 2 BR, 2 BA home which features an open floor plan with hard wood flooring through out. The kitchen is beautifully appointed with custom cabinets, granite countertops and a large pantry area. The living room, kitchen, and dining areas draw your attention to beautiful views across the valley below. The interior is finished with antiques, and collectibles from around the world.

Highland Rest lies within Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge was the 500th National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) to be established in the United States. The refuge preserves a moist valley with unique wetlands and uplands at a relatively high elevation in the Allegheny Mountains.

The property is 3800 above sea level (9.98 acres) and borders Dolly Sods Wilderness high on the mountain above (17,371 acres). Dolly Sods Wilderness contains bog and heath eco-types, more commonly typical to southern Canada. Elevations range from 2,500 to over 4,700 feet.

Note guests have access to fishing at (2) lakes within the Old Timberline community <5min from the cabin - no fishing license required within the community.

This home has everything you need. Situated in a peaceful neighborhood with great views of the Canaan Valley. Dolly Sods can be access from the property as well. Perfect place to escape the everyday routine!

This rental exceeded my expectations as it was well appointed with eclectic decorations from around the world, high-end cookware in a fully stocked kitchen, exceptionally comfortable beds, 4K TV and sound system, and breathtaking views. We visited over MLK weekend when a snow storm was expected. The driveway was plowed twice (AWD or 4WD vehicles are necessary); the teenagers loved the hot tub and it was convenient to everything we wanted to do. I loved Jim’s maximalist decorating style as there was many fascinating things at which to marvel. Overall, we have zero negative comments as again, this exceeded our expectations. Thank you, Jim!

Make sure you have 4 wheel drive if you plan to stay during Winter! The drive up to the house with snow is legit! Excellent spot if you want a more private escape but to also be close to Timberline, White Grass and the towns of Davis and Thomas. House backed up to Dolly Sods Wilderness Area so would also be ideal for hiking in the warmer months.Plenty if cookware and the amenities were all as described and in working order.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Jim's place. We had our two dogs with us as well. The views were stunning as we were there in late November and it was already snowing. The fireplace made our entire stay very cozy. The kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed going on walks and runs and visited the town of Davis and had a great time at Stumptown Ales. We will definitely visit again!

Had a such a great time at Jim's chalet. Location is amazing and the property had fantastic touches all throughout and was so comfortable. Perfect getaway
It was peaceful and quiet, just what we needed for a weekend away without the kids. The decor was unique and gave the place an authentic and cozy feel. Wish the leaves hadn’t fallen already during our stay but the view was beautiful regardless. I highly recommend traveling a little further out of town for groceries, the local supermarket was pretty sad.

We have been visiting Canaan Valley most of our adult lives. Sometimes we stay in Davis, but most of the time we stay in the Timberline community. Jim’s property is awesome! Perfect setting for a perfect weekend
Loved the large deck and hot tub for viewing the autumn leaves and relaxing after hiking in Dolly Sods! It was my favorite spot in this very comfortable home. Owner is super responsive.

So peaceful!
We absolutely loved our stay. The cabin is so eclectic and we enjoyed looking at all the things from the owner’s travels. It was stocked with everything we needed to cook, including lots of spices. We so enjoyed the hot tub while it snowed. Truly magical! Owner was very responsive as well. We hope to be back someday.

Our experience with our stay was absolutely wonderful, The property is cery well maintained and to be honest the pictures are great but if you have a opportunity to see it in person it will blow you away! There is a lot of treasures inside the home from the owners travels of the world and we both found it to be just incredible! The mountain ciews are to die for and if you like to hike this is the place to be 👏 I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a beautiful get away with peace in quiet.

Fantastic in every way!
Jim is an amazing host - from the great communications to the very thoughtful touches, this was one of the best stays! The location is great for exploring the area but also perfect to hang out, share meals and relax as well. We enjoyed playing foosball, the jacuzzi was awesome after hiking nearby and between the grills, firepit and fully stocked kitchen, we had everything we needed for a perfect weekend . Jim was super nice and we appreciated his clear instructions and great recommendations. We are already talking about returning next fall!

Beautiful Weekend in this Home
We had a great time staying here for a long weekend. We had never been to Canaan in the summer, and we will definitely return. This was our second time staying in this home, and it was fantastic as before. So many travel treasures to enjoy from Jim’s work trips. Home is so private yet close to amenities. All ages had fun!

This home is secluded, a great place to spend vacation with family. We could see only one other house, and only at night if their porch light was on. The interior is nicely arranged with plenty of space to cook food. Hot tub adds something to enjoy while the weather is poor 🙂

Lots of interesting stuff. Well balanced hot tub. Very nice covered and open decks with good furniture and flowers. Level access from car to cabin. Good TVs, beds, towels, kitchen. No other cabins close. I was looking for close access to Dolly Sods and there is a long intense uphill walk to the sods from this cabin, but there is a better trailhead within Timberline but you have to drive couple miles to it. Nice.
