My friends really liked the out door shower!
This was a very eclectic fun place to stay. We enjoyed the art and space . After dark outside the sunset view was accompanied by the call of wild Coyotes.

Not your average vacation rental!
We thoroughly enjoyed our three-day stay at Casa Soza, finding both the house and the desert location to be unique and interesting. The road and drive up to the house are admittedly a bit rough, but quite manageable even for a small car, if you take it slow. The night temperatures were chilly but we managed to stay comfortable using the bedroom heater and fireplace in the evening, and extra blankets at night. However, a portable electric heater would be an asset to use in the kitchen/living room area, and possibly the bathroom as well. The outdoor shower was an interesting experience, a great way to freshen up after a day out. The location proved to be perfect for us, as we spent time exploring Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Joshua Tree National Park. We loved coming back at the end of the day to this quiet setting to prepare our own dinners in the well-equipped kitchen and made good use of the outdoor grill. We also appreciated the little extras, especially the coffee pods and cold drinks in the fridge. The various outdoor seating options looked inviting, especially with spring flowers in bloom. However, we were out during the day and the evenings were chilly, so we didn't take advantage of them as we would have if the weather was warmer. With so much to do in the area, we hope to be back and wouldn't hesitate to rebook at Casa Soza.

Depends on the weather
The accommodation is not designed for cold weather stays. The outside temperature registered 6 C on the car when I arrived at 3:30 p.m. and the house was cold. The host told me he had been there two hours earlier but didn’t see fit to turn on the heat. Even if he had, the heating system is ineffective except for the bedrooms. It consists of two split units which are essentially an air conditioning unit/heat pump. There is one in each of the two bedrooms at either end of the house. The living area - living room, kitchen and bathroom - is in the middle. Because of the layout and the fact the units don’t face the doorways airflow to the living area is restricted especially to the bathroom. In the welcome sheet the host writes: “there is a radiator in the living room in case it gets really cold” but when pressed he admitted there wasn't any. He explained the units were new and more efficient than the old ones and were meant to replace the weaker radiator. They do not, and a portable radiator in the living area and especially the bathroom is a must. The fireplace doesn't generate much heat. The host added: “Turn both on they’ll heat the house super fast”. I had them on full blast for 8 hours and still the bathroom was cold. There is a tub with a hand held shower but you have to be very careful how you use it because there is no curtain around the tub and you can easily flood the bathroom. There is a louvre window above it and you can feel a cold draft while you wash. The tub is free floating with a cantilever design so if a heavy person decided to sit on the edge it could tip over. It is also deep which could be an issue for someone with impaired mobility. The air conditioning/heating units are beside the bed and noisy even on low. One of the bedrooms has a step higher than the rest of the floor near the doorway and under the bed. The step is painted in a darker colour probably to make it more visible but it does the opposite at night and there is no light above it. Someone not familiar with the house could easily trip especially if they get up in the middle of the night like I did. Only half of the windows in the bedrooms have coverings so even if you are not concerned with privacy you might be with the fact you can't sleep in if you want to. The road leading to the property is not gravel as indicated in the access info. It is rocky and uneven and someone with a performance car and low suspension could have issues. Wifi is unreliable.

Quirky house - voyeur delight
The house is in an unincorporated part of town, no street lights and has a septic tank. There is a neighboring house and other buildings/ facilities nearby. Landscaping is lovely. All views can be seen without a choice as there are no window coverings - including a western facing picture window in the bright green room which gets full morning sun. The master bedroom has a low platform bed and uncomfortable mattress. Can see into the bathroom from the kitchen, living room and front patio. No indoor shower option. The kitchen is well suited for cooking. Cute rattan living furniture with cushions, no place to comfortably lounge if you planned a getaway. Also, no televisions or speaker option for music. We ended up finding a nearby hotel for a better sleep. Informed the property owner in a friendly message that we cleaned up, and what we did like about the property but the bed was too uncomfortable and the reply was expressing disappointment since all other guests like the views - no mention of the bed. We are regular VRBO property guests and rely heavily on reviews.

VRBO at its best!
Everyone was correct-the outside shower was great. So we’re condiments in kitchen, grapefruit in the fridge, stunning sunsets and sunrises. We were lucky to have a full moon with us—and windy, chilly, sunny, cloudy all in four days. A perfect out of the way desert gem!

Wonderful stay near Joshua Tree
This was a perfect place for a getaway in the Joshua Tree/Palm Springs area. The views at all times of day are spectacular. While we were primarily out exploring during the day, the house is perfect for relaxing in, reading, and looking at the views. The fireplace was wonderful for the winter nights, and the heaters in the bedrooms kept the rooms warm (though we shut them off at night because they are very loud). The kitchen is well suited for basic meals, and was well stocked with coffee, tea, and spices. Petra was very responsive to our questions. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Comfortable house in a beautiful desert landscape. Strong internet, great kitchen for cooking. Lots of cool critters around -- roadrunners, hummingbirds, lizards. Cool hikes nearby but its also just a few minutes drive into town if you need anything.

Gorgeous desert getaway
This house was exactly what we were looking for. We often stay in Palm Springs proper, but decided on a true desert experience this time - one I have looked forward to for years. We stayed a couple days to catch the last days of DesertX. (Also spectacular). The property is well situated, close to Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. The house itself is truly lovely, lots of windows looking out on spectacular views. Warning: if you are not a morning person or want to sleep in, bring eyeshades- some windows don’t have window treatments, but with the views I understand the reasoning. Outdoor shower is fantastic, and I highly recommend the Cowboy Tub at sunset, although California is heading for drought this year, so use sparingly. Bathroom is beautifully designed and pulls the interior colors of the house together. The large mirrored window looking onto the rest of the house is a little weird as described, but there’s a window shade so no problem, easy to understand the thought behind the design. Bathroom could use some ventilation though. The kitchen, living room and dining area are open plan and cosy, although I wish there were a comfortable loveseat and chairs in the living room, I would have been more inclined to sit in front of the front window and gaze out or read. Petra was fantastic, responded quickly to questions, and we didn’t have too much interaction once there, which a good sign that the property is maintained and as advertised. There should however be a statement upfront that one needs to take your trash with you on departure, especially for international travelers, although we didn’t have a problem finding a dumpster and recycling (!) and happily don’t generate a lot of trash. Lovely grill and outdoor table for dining and large yard for stargazing. This property was a huge contributing factor to our vacation experience, we loved it.

Beautiful
The owner has put a lot of thought and care into making the spaces of this home appealing. It was windy during our stay which limited our ability to use the outdoor spaces, but the big window allows for a natural open feel with a great view of the mountains. The location is nice for easy trips in either direction, including hiking in Whitewater preserve, going into Palm Springs, or heading up to Joshua Tree. You can see the highway in the distance from the property but there is no road noise. The owner is very responsive and attentive to making sure your stay is a good one. Overall we had a very pleasant stay

Lovely Desert Home
My family and I had an excellent stay in Petra and Ric's desert home. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed and we didn't feel we were missing anything. We loved showering outdoors and watching the sunrise through the large picture window. Nighttime was great for watching the stars as there is no light pollution. You really are in the middle of nowhere and it's a nice experience that everyone should try at least once. We definitely recommend visiting a store before arriving for your stay as it is a bit of a drive to get groceries. We happened to find a small farmer's market close by one Saturday morning but even that was around 10-12 mins away.

Wow!
Petra was very communicative and helpful. This is a truly great place to be away from it all. And should be the reason to stay here. To have that unique experience to be in nature. It isn’t something you can replicate if you end up staying in JT itself or Yucca Valley. This place is out there, and unlike other places like that still has WiFi and cell reception. It is more remote in other places. And gives you a unique experience to wake in silence at sunrise with a mountain range thad surrounds you that can be seen from all windows. I got up every day at sunrise as the biggest mountain up front colors red then. It is extraordinary. The shower outdoor was my favorite. Though my friend preferred to use the indoor bathroom. When it is extremely hot, I would bring some ear plugs as the aircons are loud. Which is quite normal by the way in the area for some reason. I have seen this in other Airbnb’s too. I turned then off myself at night as it cools a lot in the eve and the fan was fine. Petra did a really great job leaving information behind about the area. And so kind to leave us some basics like water, coffee, and fruit from her garden. We felt for an airbnb this place is ideal to cook yourself. People always say they have stuff to cook your own meal, but if you really like being a chef you find out it isn’t really true. It is a great kitchen to cook in. Quality stove, oven, pots and pans. Like someone who loves to cook lives there. And a huge fridge and freezer so we only went to Trader Joe’s once for our 5 day stay. Shop for Keurig pods, coffee wise.

Great Desert Getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Whitewater. The location is 40 minutes to Joshua Tree, but a world away from a busy life. The house is a combination of cozy rustic and funky mid-century. To be honest, we enjoy the rustic more than the funky, but it was still delightful. The bathroom/tub set up might be a bit uncomfortable if you’re sharing the house with another couple, but the tub itself is huge and provides a lovely soak. We would certainly stay at Whitewater again for our next visit to the desert.
