Brittany stays as unique as you are
Accommodation In Brittany\n
Wotif you took a much-deserved break and headed to the western coast of France? Stay in one of our Brittany hotels and enjoy the gorgeous coastline, Celtic traditions and historic monuments that make this region so unique.
History
The name "Brittany" is derived from the word "Briton", which comes from the Brits who settled in the area during medieval times after they escaped from Anglo-Saxons. These days, the locals are very proud of their region's past, and Brittany's Celtic heritage really does set it apart from the rest of France.
Things to do
In the inland capital city of Rennes, you'll be able to check out the old parliament building, visit a couple of museums and wander around the Quaint Quarter (Rennes' Old Town), which bursts to life on Saturday mornings with one of the largest markets in the country. So make sure you bring some cash!
After you've spent some time in the city, head to the coastline where you can see Brittany's most famous attraction, the World Heritage listed island abbey of Mont St Michel. This city and abbey, built upon a tiny rocky outcrop in the middle of the bay, are instantly recognisable and seem like they belong in a fairytale. Definitely bring your camera and extra batteries for this one!
The pink granite coast of Ploumanac'h is also not to be missed. And a bit further along the coastline, the once-pirate-inhabited city of Saint-Malo offers a fascinating step back in time as you wander around ramparts and maritime artefacts. For another nostalgic experience, Dinan is a great place to wander around charming cobblestoned streets and while away an afternoon in art galleries. Make sure you stop off at Dinan Castle too, along with the historic fishing village of Vannes.
Annual events
The locals in Brittany sure love to party, so try to plan your holiday around these key dates. There's the Festival of Brittany in mid-May, the Mont Saint Michel Marathon later in May, Dinan's medieval Fête des Remparts in July and the celtic music event Festival Interceltique in Lorient in August.
Getting here and around
There are a few different ways you can get to Brittany but the two easiest options are to fly to the capital city on one of these cheap flights to Rennes or, if you'd prefer to stay near the coast, grab a seat on one of these flights to Brest. Once you've arrived, it's a breeze to get around on trains, buses and ferries.
So wot are you waiting for? Book your Brittany accommodation with us today and start packing for your French holiday!
