Christmas stay
Room was reasonable but some mould in bathroom and a damp patch on floor maybe a leak from bathroom. Television didn’t work during the whole stay which was a little disappointing. However the breakfast was fabulous.

Not great at all
The rooms are in an out-building which is fine but our room wasn't in good condition at all. There was a lot of fresh black mold on the walls around the door (that I had to wipe down myself). There was also black mold higher up out of reach on the walls and ceiling. There was no curtain, just a blind that was missing the adjuster to close the blinds. The main room was very very basic. In the bathroom the bath was in a bad condition with it almost rotting away along the seals and the was a massive crack in the sink which actually later dropped out leaving a hole in the sink. The bed was comfy enough and actually slept well but expected much better for the money. Service on arrival was good so no complaints there but as we left early there was no one there to really express the dissatisfaction.

It was fine but the room was a little cold and took a while to warm up. I turned the heater on when I arrived and went out whilst it warmed up

Property is dingy. Room was tired and smelled it. Bathroom looked unclean and smelled horribly musty/moldy. Strongly perfumed “air freshener” plugged in to try to mask the mustiness. Found clumps of hair on the old worn carpet. Staff who gave the key was friendly which was the only positive. Managers were not helpful saying the room was fine and recently renovated! Looked like the only “renovation” was maybe the bed cover? They said I could leave if I wanted! If I had transport, I would have!

OK
Not the warmest welcome I've ever had on check-in (and I've no idea whether I would have received a warmer goodbye,as i couldn't actually get inside the pub at checkout time and just left my key on a bench outside), nor the loveliest room ever, but it was - OK. Served its purpose. The bed was OK. The shower was OK and hot. The price was OK. A bit underwhelming , but adequate

Where to start. We checked in and got told we had to pay for our 2 dogs, which was not specified when I booked and it stated that there is no charge for dogs. We went to our room, and was greeted by the overwhelming smell of damp and fust. There was black mould near the toilet, behind the sink and behind a lot of cabinets as well as rotten carpet. Everything was covered in thick dust, and there was many cobwebs and spiders. The occupant upstairs took a shower and a wet patch appeared in the ceiling.  I am really not sure how we managed to sleep in that room. We got into a bed that felt damp and woke up to all our clothes being damp as well as tight chests presumably from the mould. We did get a refund for the dogs, upon proving where we saw that it said no charges apply. We complained about the room and got told that they are getting round to deep cleaning. Honestly, no human or dog should be allowed to stay in a room like that. We all felt disgusting. The management seemed very much aware of the damp. The room should not be let out until changes are made. Absolutely outrageous.

Very friendly and good value
The accommodation was £60 for a night and was absolutely fine. The staff were incredibly friendly. We went into town to explore and came back too late for food. The staff offered to drive us back into town and then suggested we could have a takeaway which we were able to eat in the bar. The full English breakfast was good value and very good. We would definitely go back but we liked Matlock so much, we made an offer on a house so we may not need the rooms again but will visit for food and drink!

Our room was okay with two twin beds separated by a narrow aisle. Bathroom could stand an upgrade but was clean and adequate. At this fairly low price, lodging was good enough.
