We are from Illinois but got married in Maine 15 years ago. We wanted to show our children the beauty of Maine and this house was the perfect place to call home while we were there! We felt right at home from the moment we walked in. The house had everything we needed for our stay - plenty of room for our family, well appointed kitchen, comfy beds and couches, and nice and clean. We loved spending time sitting on the porch looking out on the lake. My youngest especially loved the hammock. We had a fire in the fire pit one night and we were lucky to have a clear sky another of the nights we were there - we got to see more stars than we have ever seen before. We had a lot of sights we wanted to see, but if we had wanted to, we could've easily kept ourselves entertained at the house the whole time we were in Maine. There are plenty of board games, yard games, movies, and they also have kayaks and life vests available for use. Our hosts even did a little something special to acknowledge our anniversary which we found very thoughtful.
It was an easy drive to all the places we wanted to visit - Jasper Beach, Roque Bluff, Lubec and West Quoddy Head, Campobello Island, and Eastport to see Old Sow and eat at Fisherman's Wharf. Also, it was nice to be "away from it all" while still being just a short drive from Machias for restaurants (especially Helen's - pie, pie, pie) and grocery shopping at Hannaford's. I would highly recommend staying at this wonderful house!
