This delightful cottage is situated in the centre of the village of Escamps (pronounced Eh-cong), Burgundy, just 2 hours drive on the motorway from Paris or a more leisurely two and a half hours taking the “route national” through the forests of Fountainebleau, past small villages and undulating fields of sunflower and canola. Desjardins Cottage is perfect for a weekend getaway or longer stays where you can relax and experience this quintessential French countryside and all it has to offer.
Escamps is a tiny village with a Romanesque church circa 800, just 14 kms from the impressive gothic cathedral town of Auxerre on the river Yonne and 25kms from the wineries of Chablis and Irancy. The house has two bedrooms, one with queen sized bed and the other 2 singles that can be made up as a second queen. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge room for a 3rd child or friends dropping by.
The cottage itself is 400-500 years old. We believe it may have belonged to a religious order since renovations revealed a tiny habited face on the outside wall. The home is well equipped, warm, comfortable and delightfully decorated in the classic French provincial style. The garden is fully fenced in and secure so parents can feel relaxed while children play!
Information is provided for short trips to neighbouring market towns, wineries, restaurants, important religious sites and historic attractions as well as day trips inviting you to explore villages, caves and castles further afield.

Peaceful cottage in the heart of the French countryside
This is a great location if you want to get away from the bustle of the city. The cottage is beautifully furnished and very cosy. A couple of benefits that hadn't jumped out in the listing include the toilet being separate from the shower, and a washing machine and drier. Penelope was really helpful and answered our questions quickly. We've stayed in many vrbo properties over the years and this was one of the best - just a shame we didn't have nicer weather so we could really enjoy the courtyard garden!

Blocked pipes smelled horrible!
First of all this area was somewhat depressed . When we walked into the house it smelled horrible like sewage! The owners said this had never happened before however I read the guest book and another person had mentioned the terrible smell and block drains. I just called my c card and the owners have yet to reimburse me which is so upsetting! The house was clean and presentable but the smell from the kitchen drains made us depart.

Lovely little cottage
Lovely little cottage, with a private garden area to sit with your morning coffee. there are no services in the town, so You need a car to get coffee, food, gas or groceries . Auxerre is the nearest large town which is a 30 minute drive. But if you are looking for a quiet little place to rest this is the place.

Escamp Gite, Yonne in Burgundy
Clean, well equipped and spacious. One of our requirements for a gite is that it is suitable for my wife's level of mobility/disability and in this regard the cottage was well described and exactly suitable for us. The shower for instance was one of the best for someone of disability to use that we have found in holiday lets. Our only caveat was with the location the village of Escamp it being completely devoid of facilities. But that was made clear in the description and there is a larger village 2km away which has most of the things one needs.

Our stay was too brief
This is a lovely property, and fully lives up to, and even exceeds the impression presented in the photographs. Our stay was only 2 nights, as a way to give our kids a taste of a French country-side stay, with the hopes that they will warm to the idea of a longer stay in the future. I think this property would be just fine for our family of four for a longer stay.

Le point positif:je remercie le propriétaire qui a accepté que le séjour soit décalé d une semaine (pour raisons médicales). Points négatifs :moisissures surs murs de plusieurs pieces dont salon et chambre avec odeur typique de moisissures. Et difficulté de stationnement avec voisins nous demandant de ne pas stationner sur les places pourtant conseillées par le propriétaire ( voisins hostiles... Même pas un bonjour...) Enfin extérieur non entretenu.

Calme et simplicité
Nous avons beaucoup apprécié cette maison décorée avec goût et très bien équipée. Elle nous a semblé plus grande qu'elle ne l'était sur les photos. A 11 km d'Auxerre, elle est très bien située et permet de rayonner dans toute l'Yonne. Le point fort de la maison est qu'elle garde la fraicheur. Autre bonne surprise, elle est dotée d'une machine à laver le linge, ce qui n'est pas précisé sur l'annonce. Enfin, nous avons rencontré des petits problèmes de connexion Internet et de plomberie. Le propriétaire s'est montré très réactif et les problèmes ont vite été résolus.

schönes Haus mit schwacher Umgebung
Das Haus als solches samt Einrichtung ist sehr schön. v.a. die Küche. Die Benutzung der Garage dagegen ist problematisch. Der Garten ist nur ein größerer Platz mit Kieselsteinen. Aufenthalt draußen macht deshalb nicht richtig Freude. Man hat leider auch überhaupt keine Aussicht, das war für uns besonders negativ. Im Ort gibt es nichts zu kaufen und auch keine Bar/Restaurant. die letztgenannten negativen Aspekte waren für uns aus der Objektbeschreibung nicht ersichtlich.

Idéalement situé pour pouvoir visiter sans trop de trajet tous les sites touristiques locaux GUEDELON, VEZELAY, PONTIGNY, ST FARGEAU... AUXERRE à 10 mn pour les grosses courses et le choix des restaurants Chevannes à 2 mn pour l'épicerie et la boulangerie Rien ne manque pour passer un séjour agréable Vieille maison retapée et meublée avec goût On a juste manquer d'un peu de soleil pour profiter de la terrasse extérieure

Gut ausgerichtetes Ferienhaus in der Umgebung von Auxerre
Reibungslose Kommunikation, sehr sauber, im August war die Hitze draussen in dem Haus überhaupt nicht zu spüren, viele Ausflugsmöglichkeiten in der Umgebung. Alle Angaben im Online-Inserat waren korrekt. Die Küche war toll ausgestattet, wir kochen gerne und konnten uns die Kleinkram-Willkommens-Einkäufe, wie Müllbeutel, Salz, Pfeffer etc. sparen. Alles war da. Wir würden dieses Ferienhaus gerne weiterempfehlen. Im Sommer geht man gerne baden und der nächste Fluss-/Seestrand war etwa 30 Minuten mit dem Auto entfernt. Das Schwimmbad in Auxerre ist 15 Minuten mit dem Auto entfernt.

Geschmackvoll eingerichtetes Haus in ruhigem Dorf
Die Einrichtung des Hauses verbindet sehr gelungen Antiquitäten mit modernen Accessoires, Aufteilung der Räume ist sehr gut, man hat auch bei schlechtem Wetter genug Platz. Die Betten sind sehr bequem, Küche vollständig eingerichtet (bis auf eine Spülmaschine), sogar WLAN, Waschmachine und Trockner sind vorhanden, und alles ist sehr gepflegt. Der Garten ist nett, es gibt schattige und sonnige Ecken und sogar zwei Liegen, die auf den Fotos nicht zu sehen sind - das Unkraut könnte etwas häufiger entfernt werden. Die Vermieterin antwortet schnell und freundlich. Im Ort selber gibt es keine Geschäfte, aber der Nachbarort Chevannes mit einem kleinen Einkaufszentrum ist 3 km entfernt, und in Auxerre bekommt man alles. In der Gegend gibt es sehr viel zu sehen - Schlösser, Weingüter, Märkte, Kirchen, kleine Dörfer, Höhlen - viel zu viel für eine Woche! Wir haben abends immer selber gekocht und im Garten gegessen - wunderbare Erholung.

Maison très bien, jardin à revoir.
MAISON rien à redire, c'est de très bonne qualité. Literie de rêve. Cuisine bien équipée, on pourrait regretter le lave-vaisselle, mais il a fallu faire des choix dans cette maison. JARDIN négligé, (les mauvaises herbes poussent à travers les cailloux, arbre pas taillé, pommes de pins de l'automne dernier partout, plates-bandes qui débordent, rosier envahissant) dommage! Certes, il y a de quoi s'asseoir ou s'allonger mais l'état de la terrasse (noir, mousse en abondance) jure avec la GRANDE qualité de l'intérieur. Allez, un petit effort pour en faire un CINQ ETOILES !

Jolie maison très soigneusement agencée et décorée. Beaucoup de choses se trouve à disposition, beaucoup de vaisselle et matériel de cuisine aussi. Ce fut très agréable pour nous de passer ce moment dans cette maison presque de famille!
