Historic Collier hotel and vacation rental - perfect for families and groups

This lovingly restored 19th century rooming house in beautiful Scott Valley is full of authentic touches and memorable spaces. With high wood beam ceilings, huge suites, and a large fenced yard, it makes the perfect retreat for exploring the natural beauty of the Marble Mountains, Scott and Klamath River watersheds, Russian Wilderness, Trinity Alps, and Pacific Crest trail. Situated just off HWY 3 and only a 30 minute drive from Interstate 5, the mountain valley hamlet of Etna, CA provides peace, quiet, unbelievable natural beauty, and a moderate, four seasons climate. Located less than a block away from a cafe, grocery store, and full playground, the hotel also boasts several quality restaurants, the Etna Brewery, a lovely main street, a full service post office, a picturesque city park, and (in the summer) a large city pool, all less than a quarter mile walk from the hotel entrance.

The Collier Hotel started life in 1897 as a rooming house and had a variety of uses over the years before the current owners, Rich and Ali Cloutman, purchased the property in 1998 and renovated it to use as a personal residence for their young family. After many wonderful memories at the hotel, they moved residences and turned the old hotel into a vacation rental. Recently, Asa and Samantha Robinson, who reside a few houses away from the hotel with their young son, have taken over the management of the hotel and they strive to ensure that every guest need is promptly addressed.

Although its reasonable rates makes the hotel a cost effective choice for a single large family, the hotel is also suitable for even larger groups. There are beds for 12, but at 3600 square feet, the house can easily accommodate more guests by arrangement. The large landscaped yard, open dining area and kitchen, and multi-level wrap around porches make an ideal location for hosting events, small weddings, and family reunions (by arrangement). For even larger events, the park nearby is well maintained and includes an excellent large pit BBQ, covered eating area, and a large number of movable picnic tables, making serving 100+ people a breeze. Reservations at the park can be made for a reasonable fee, and we can assist with that as well as obtaining local catering, entertainment, photography, etc. as needed.

Perfect For Our Family
Cassie was extremely responsive and accommodating and she takes pride in the Collier Hotel property. It is clean, comfortable, and neat. All of us appreciate older architecture so we had that added bonus. We used the kitchen a lot as well as the dining area.The separate living room contributed to our enjoyment and especially that of the kids (ages 9-20). I count the older 2 because they were interacting with their younger siblings and hanging out in the room. We were a family of 9 and it was wonderful that we each had our own bed and enough toilets to accommodate our needs! The "home" is spacious so we had room in the entry way for our outerwear and our belongings in the bedrooms. Ray's Food Store is right across the street and almost everything in the town of Etna is within easy walking distance. I highly recommend this property. It was perfect for our family.

We hosted our daughter's wedding party and their partners at the Collier. Cassie was an amazing host - responsive, friendly, and helpful throughout the entire process. Our guests felt so comfortable and had an enjoyable experience being able to relax and visit at the hotel between wedding activities over the weekend. It was clean, beautiful, comfortable, and well appointed for everyone's needs. Would highly recommend!

We had a family Thanksgiving here with 15 people. The property is charming and the neighborhood is quiet, great for long walks. The owner was super responsive to questions, even when the VRBO app wasn't working she got in touch via text. A lovely time.

Great historic lodging well cared for, in wonderful town
Had a wonderful time biking, hiking, and enjoying the local beers and food. Beautiful back lawn and deck conducive to chat and lawn games (corn hole provided) at the property. Beds comfortable, WiFi fast and strong. The small kitchen well equipped. Near to market and restaurants. Our group of 10 easily accommodated and loved it.

Great roomy place to hang with family and friends!
The place was amazingly clean! Wiping up some water on the kitchen floor didn't even get the paper towel dirty...just wet! Plenty of room to spread out and the walls were well insulated for sound. Just 25 minutes or so to the great view at Etna Summit and snow play. Cassie was a great hostess and very responsive. The kitchen was VERY well stocked...even with goodies, coffee and tea. The various space heaters worked well and was very comfortable. We three families of 13 people loved it and would love to come back. We didn't have a reason to be in Etna this time nor do we in the future...but this place makes it worth coming back!

Lovely
This place is vintage and beautiful and Cassie does a great job keeping it in top shape. It suited our group of 10 perfectly. The kitchen/dinner space is nicely sized, and now in summer it is so lovely sitting outside on the porch on the nice benches. Great location in town too and good starting point to a variety of wilderness areas etc. Our group of 10 loved it.

A historic property in a great little rural town.
We rented the entire property for our family Chritmas get together in 2017. The building was constructed near the turn of the century. With that, comes the charm, the warmth and the cold. Plenty of blankets and space heaters were available to supplement the the two oil burning furnaces. The kitchen is adequately equipped and served us well. Wifi and DirecTV were included. The staff and owner were very accommodating. The town of Etna was quite nice and has great amenities availabe. The well stocked grocery store is across the main street. There are two breweries and a distillery in town. Due the holiday schedule, we were unable to sample those. We walked around town in between bouts of holiday eating and drinking. The people were friendly. I believe we will return possibly in the summer to take advantage of the outdoor activities nearby, and get a chance to visit the breweries and distillery.

What a wonderful place!!
