Nice place but let down by food and simple things.
This one is a mixed bag. Has the potential to be excellent, but let down by a few things. What was good were the spa and gym. Gym had just been refurbished and had all the latest techno gym equipment. Easily the best gym I have ever used in a hotel. The spa with the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish Hamman were all great as well. Only downside was it needed a plunge pool or cold showers next to the sauna; you had to trap around the other side of the pool and through to the changing rooms to cool off, but this is not a deal breaker. The staff were all lovely, except the young guy who checked us in, but to be fair on him, he was obviously new, and was on his own, so that was really management’s fault on a Saturday afternoon. The rooms were very spacious, with new aircon, which was appreciated. Downside was despite such a big bathroom, it had a tiny shower cubicle, with nowhere to put soap/shampoo. The evening meal was very mediocre at best, and yet over £50 a head (that was with just one glass of wine for my partner and a soft drink for me). Not worth it. They have a more expensive restaurant that is meant to be excellent, but if the meal had was anything to go by, I wouldn’t bother. Breakfast was large, but the food quality felt very cheap. For a hotel that prides itself on gastronomy, I really was not impressed. Also did not appreciate that they are cashless in all things. I feel that this should be mentioned before making a booking. In the morning the place stunk of manure.

Our stay,room and breakfast was fine but very very disappointed with Twilight Spa package we booked for Thursday 25th July.we felt that there was no guidance by the staff on duty.As for two course delicious buffet dinner which was supposed to be at 7pm that ran late and when questioned the manager who was standing in the bar, whilst waiting in the queue, his reply was how long have you been waiting we are only 5 minutes late. I suppose he didn’t realise that me being guest at the hotel was paying his salary and customer care and not even apology went out of the window.This was very upsetting as spa staff told us make sure your you’re at Terrace Cafe by 7 pm. As for buffet we found there wasn’t much choice for vegetarians, this was disappointing especially I rang the the spa reservation prior to booking and being told that there would plenty of choice. What vegetarian choice was bland and not sure but by 7.30 pm the staff started to clear the buffet area. At that point we’d had enough & left. Overall very disappointed with experience of Twilight Spa package as we chose this to celebrate our wedding anniversary.we hope you look into this and mention this to staff concerned so it doesn’t happen again. Room was perfectly fine but no air con or plug points next to the bed to charge my mobile phone and no full length mirror. The bathroom was a throwback from the 90s with a shower fitment almost impossible to operate, dated and cracked tiling. The ceasar salad served in the bar was unpleasant with bacon ‘bits’ like grit in the mouth - the waitress waived the charge. The younger male bar staff were busy sharing their personal stories which was unprofessional and distracting - I moved to the far end of the room to get away from the incessant ‘banter’! I last stayed at the hotel 20 years ago and it appears to have been in a time warp ever since! Overall, disappointing for a 4 star hotel.

Lack of communication
Room service took a very long time, the toddler bed wasn't the most secure. The communication prior to the booking, on attendance and during the booking was terrible. It took me 10 phone calls to find out information about the spa as I was misinformed prior to the stag and after those phone calls they still couldn't answer my question so we had to hope we could access the spa the following day and that was resolved after speaking to them face to face.
