The room was well appointed and clean. While it was difficult becoming accustomed to the European electrical system within the rooms, we were able to educate ourselves within a short period of time. The hotel was very clean, the staff was very accommodating and the meals were very good. The parking was a bit difficult as the garage was tight but we managed. Overall, would recommend the hotel to others.

Check -In was long. Didn't get the ocean view I booked because I had a dog. Hotel is a mix of apartment tenants and visitors between 3 different buildings. I had to stay in Building A and park in Building B. Had a maze to get from building A to B. Elevator did not go garage. Very tiring.

The position the hotel so close to the spectacular coastline was great. We were in Block B on the sixth floor in a sea view apartment. It was really spacious and very clean and modern. Watch the sun go down was amazing. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. Bring on holiday a 10 am slot was perfect for us. The pool was clean and never too busy and we could always get the beds we needed. Local restaurants were great and cocktails at the end of the night in the hotel bar were a great way to relax. The staff were really friendly and helpful both at breakfast and reception. It’s a good 40 min walk into Funchal centre which we found no problem as the views were fab. The regular buses - right outside the hotel were frequent and only a couple of euros. The aero bus was only 5 euros and a lot cheaper than getting a cab. Also just outside hotel. I would highly recommend the Golden residence.

In a great location if looking for somewhere a bit quieter but still with amenities in walking distance. Block C is the most convenient for the pool, bars and breakfast. Lovely stay and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Pros: 1. Location allows for nice sunsets 2. Breakfast buffet is good Cons: 1. Rooms are quite dated and not reflective of what a 4 star hotel should provide 2. Service can leave you feeling unappreciated 3. Shower randomly changes temperature from comfortable to scalding 4. The resistance training options in the gym are quite poor, even by hotel gym standards

We enjoyed staying at golden residence. Location was great, breakfast bar with lots of different options available, housekeeping was excellent. Although recenption staff were friendly they wouldn’t provide any information unless you ask them and I think hotel is missing some kids entertainment when we had heavy rainy days.

This place would be five stars, but had a couple of issues that knocked it down to four. The 11 days we were there the room air conditioner was not working. It was never mentioned at check in, but we were told about it after asking questions about how the AC works. The other issue is noise. With no A/C you have to leave the window open. There was a lot of construction noise from various properties that are being built around it. There was also a lot of noise from dogs barking in the building next door to the Golden Residence. Other than that, this would be a good place to stay.
