Gov't Camp Meldrum House

Relax in our cozy mountain cabin in the heart of Government Camp. The Meldrum House was built in 1915 by Judge Meldrum, a prominent Portland judge. His family regularly made the difficult journey to Government Camp to play on the mountain. A complete renovation allows you to appreciate the character of this historical home while enjoying its warmth, safety, and modern conveniences.
Enjoy your morning coffee while taking in a view of Mt. Hood on a clear day. Just steps away from great restaurants or a hike on the Crosstown trail. In the winter grab your gear and walk to Ski Bowl East, less than a half mile away. In the summer explore the mountain on your mountain bike or hike the many trails in the area.
After full day of fun on the mountain cozy up on the comfy sofa and enjoy the gas fireplace or watch your favorite show. The cabin is ideal for two people, with a bedroom upstairs, but can sleep up to four guests with additional sleeping space on the comfortable queen sofa bed with a gel mattress. Cook in the retro kitchen with modern appliances and dine in surrounded by the original built-in shelves. The spacious dining table enables you to eat in or use the space to work from “home” with high-speed fiber optic internet. The cabin has one bathroom with a shower and if you played extremely hard, there’s a front-loading washer and dryer set to take care of your clothes too. Clean towels and bed linens are supplied. Need more fun? The cabin boasts a foosball table and other games for your entertainment.
Enjoy a cozy retreat in one of the oldest homes in Government Camp, tasefully updated for your comfort. You'll be close to everything yet far enough away to enjoy a fun-filled adventure.

Great locale for hiking and waterfalls
We enjoyed this cabin during the off season but found it a great location for hiking the trails in the Mt Hood area as well as exploring the Columbia Gorge area. The location in Govt. Camp can’t be beat- close to restaurants and store.

Lovely setting
There had been a lot of snow, and a path was cleared from the street to the doorway. I had one question for the owner, my call And my question was answered immediately.

Great location and house!
This was a flawless VRBO from start to finish. Good communication, accurate listing, great location, and cozy accommodation. We spent the weekend snow shoeing at the various sno parks nearby and this house was perfect for our weekend. The hosts' welcome coffee and wine was much appreciated, and we enjoyed the fireplace and the ability to walk to dinner each night. The kitchen is well stocked, and there are lots of appliances for your use. Thanks for a wonderful stay--we will return!

The good and the bad
The house is cute and clean. The pic of the house listed, appears to be in the woods. It is not in the woods. It is on the main st. In Government Camp. You have to park in front of the house, if there is a place to park. Then you have to be up by 7:30 to get dressed and move your car to the other side of the street. You do this daily. This was not mentioned on vrbo. You find this out when you arrive and read the book. If you don’t read the book, you will most likely get a ticket. On the first night we were woken up around 1:30 a.m. to what sounded and felt something like a bad earthquake, followed by beep, beep, beep, beep and the process repeated until around 3:30 a.m. Turned out to be snowplows. We asked host to give us money back for second night so we could leave, but he would not. Said we knew where the house was located. I had never been up there before, so no I didn’t know anything about it. Ad says steps to town, but for someone who hasn’t been there before and by looking at the pic of the house you would never know you are on the main st. People should know that they will have to get up to move car back and forth daily and that during snows, you will be awake for hours, unless you are a very deep sleeper. The lighting in minimal. The stair case if very narrow and dark for coming down to use the bathroom at night. We had to use our cell phone flashlight. If we knew about moving car daily and snowplows we would not have booked.

This property was beyond perfect.
We were situated right in the middle of Government Camp and had access to everything we needed with a few steps out the door: grocery, restaurants, Mt.Hood Outfitters (activity/etc), and just up the street from Skibowl for tubing, etc. The cottage was clean, well equipped, warm and cozy, with everything we need on a vacation. The inclusion of a snow park permit while staying there was lovely. And the welcome sweets, wine, and fruits were all wonderful! Everything was easy The hosts were easy to communicate with prior to our arrival, and we had no issues at all during our entire stay. We can’t wait to go back next winter.

Great little cabin, close to the slopes
The property was clean and exactly what we needed for a short vacation skiing. It is across the street from several restaurants and has a nice and cozy feel on the inside with the gas fireplace and cabin feel. As close to the slopes as you can get without staying in the lodge.

I’ve traveled a ton, stayed in a number of places, but honestly have never seen a place so well taken care of and arranged. This cabin is phenomenally clean, so comfortable and feels like home. We had a great time, will be back for sure and can honestly say it’s by far the best place in Government Camp. Thanks so much to our hosts!!

Snowcation
We really loved our stay here. It was a cozy little house conveniently located in the heart of Government Camp. Easy walking to restaurants and easy driving to ski resorts nearby (all within 30 minutes). And we could play in the deep snow right outside the house - we even built a sledding slope! Everything was well thought out - we love the fireplace for the warmth and also for drying out wet boots. Washer and dryer were much needed. Beds are comfortable including the pull out sofa. Overall, one of the best VRBO we have stayed at. We would love to stay there again. Thanks again!
