River Vineyard Retreat a great base from which to explore the Tamar Valley

Sublime Secluded Sanctuary
As a luxury RETREAT, or a base to explore the region, River Vineyard Retreat is boutique, unique and memorable.
Just 15 minutes from the city center, this apartment nestled high in the trees and overlooking one of Tasmania's finest wine growing regions and the Tamar River seems like a world away.
Being right in the vines of one of our highly acclaimed vineyards means that wine tasting is right there on site. Grab a bottle of stunning Sparkling and have a long warm bath with your own private amazing view. You can't go past sampling a local Pinot from one of the many neighboring vineyards with some local grown beef on the BBQ and spectacular views from the deck.
On site cellar door and a gin distillery.
Apart from the amazing food and wine experience that is all around, there is so much to see and do, and within such short distance. River Vineyard Retreat is the perfect base for your visit to Tasmania, its wine, its food, its adventure.
Try a leisurely stroll along the river and pop into the historic Rosevears Tavern for an award winning Tassie Beer, and local steak or seafood.
Or grab some fresh produce from the nearby supermarket, the kitchenette has all you need to fix yourself a meal, we recommend a BBQ on the deck.
The apartment has all the mod cons: A/C, wifi, Smart TV, Netflix, DVD, stereo, kitchenette etc. but it also has an amazing wall of glass, spacious raking ceilings and fun games and movies to make your stay warm, comfortable and memorable.

Perfect location
This is a beautiful little place to stay. Judith was a good host and very responsive. We stayed here with our 2 school aged children as the listing stated it was suitable for 4 adults. There is a nice bedroom with ensuite and the second sleeping area is a fold out couch in the living area. It’s quite small and was not ideal for the four of us. Would be perfect for a couple. Loved the location and surrounding areas. Hopefully will be back without the kids one day!

We loved staying on the vineyard property. It was beautiful and even with a little road noise it was still quite peaceful and relaxing and made a great base for our time checking out the Tasting Tour of the Tamar Valley. Judy is an excellent host and was very responsive…especially when the power went out and we needed to access the breaker box.

Disappointing, outdated and dirty
We stayed in unit 5. The views are great. But unfortunately we were greeted with at least 3 skinks running around and sunbaking on the carpet. The wine glasses, cups and cutlery were filithy- we had to wash everything prior to using it. Which was difficult as there was only a few drops of dishwashing detergent left in the bottle and some used dirty chux cloths. We also couldn’t find the kitchen sink plug. The outdoor furniture and balcony was also very filthy, covered in dust and bird droppings. And it looked like it had been like that for a long time. So we had to clean that before we could use it as well. In the bathroom, no new/fresh soaps or shampoo were supplied. In the shower there was what looked like their personal 1 litre bottles of shampoo and body wash which we weren’t keen on using. Also the shower floor was disgusting, had lots of hair and some unknown piece of food or something on the shower floor. It’s a shame the accomodation was so disappointing and unclean because it could be amazing if it was updated and maintained better. It has huge potential. The unit itself is outdated with blown lightbulbs and the towel rails loose and falling off the walls. Also a lot of their personal items lying around and stuffed in cupboards making the place feel cluttered. In the bedroom, some of the spare blankets and pillows were rolled up and thrown into a cupboard with a dirty vacuum plonked on top of them. We took photos of all this but are unable to upload them to this review. For price we paid, we really expected much better and unfortunately don’t recommend staying here. The owners were lovely with the small amount of communication we had, so I hope they can improve the units and the cleanliness. We cleaned it up and left the unit in better condition than we found it.

Nice Spot
Really good location to explore the Tamar Valley and dealings with Judy prior to our visit was great. The venue itself is somewhat tired and could do with a mini makeover. Some of the dissapointing aspects included: - Vegemite supplied was 18 months out of date. - Several dead flies in the bathroom and ants throughout the kitchen. - The washing machine spin cycle didn't work resulting in extremely wet clothes! - Only 1 wine glass which seemed odd given we were in a wine region! - TV set is extremely small for size of the living room, from speaking to other guests most other places had 50+ inch tvs. - No toilet seat lid?? - Light not working in bedroom. While only little things, with some TLC and a little attention to detail the place could be dramatically improved. Overall comfortable enough without being amazing.

Fantastic views and great location
We were absolutely stunned by the view when we walked into this apartment! There is one wall of window looking directly over the vineyard and on to the Tamar River, just beautiful. The apartment itself is well equipped and comfortable. The location is great too, not too far out of Launceston and on the way there is a supermarket to collect supplies. Good spot to explore the Tamar Valley region too. We secured a couple of bottles of wine from the winery on the first night and they were excellent. The winery itself offers platters for lunch (which we did not sample) but no evening meals. We enjoyed out stay here and have already recommended to friends.

Good position,but a bit tired
The position of the unit is good and the view is relaxing. It a great location to base yourself for a tour of the wine region. However the unit needs a spruce up. We stayed in these units some years ago and the unit is well set out and amenities are OK, but it is now getting a bit tired.

Disappointed
The apartment had a beautiful view and even with heating was very very cold overnight. The bathroom also wasnt as shown in the photos and the kitchenette didn't have everything we needed as we couldn't use the bbq due to the cold weather. Disappointed stay.

serenity in a beautiful vineyard
I love coming back here again and again. Just to walk in the door and look through the large windows out to the vineyard, hills and river...and the magnificent eucalypt trees. The deep bath is such a boon too - to relax with some wine and a book. A fabulous destination - whether as a solo traveller or for a romantic tryst or with a friend. 10/10

A cosy home with a wonderful view
This lovely, cosy house is a wonderful destination for relaxing and a very convenient base for exploring the region of the beautiful Tamar Valley. It is comfortably furnished and very well maintained. The view from the large windowfront and the balcony is magnificent! We spent unforgettable days in this beautiful home and we want to recommend it with all our hearts! We thank Judy very much for her hospitality.
