Lovely stay in a room with a beautiful castle view. We loved the common areas and lively bar and restaurant. The entire staff were so kind and helpful and the restaurant food was delicious in a charming ambiance with impeccable service. Great breakfast spread, only complaint is they didn’t replenish so if you arrived at 10am like we did the selection was diminished.

This hotel has a very nice atmosphere. It feels comfortable and it was lovely to see the common areas full of families and groups sitting together and enjoying some drinks and snacks and just being social. The room was simple, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful and well appointed. The restaurant/pub provided decent food but was overpriced...simple burger and meatballs dinners with a drink ringing in at 600 SEK. The breakfast was very good quality. A beautiful hotel with good staff and perfectly situated to enjoy the town. We will stay here again.

Charming, historic hotel where each room has unique Swedish furniture and decor, still with all the amenities and a Hastens bed. Wonderful setting on Lake Malarian, a stones throw from Gripsholm Castle. We loved just throwing open the windows and enjoying the fresh country air! We seemed to be the only non-Swedish guests in September, so that made it an even more authentic experience.

When the business model shows through...
Overall we had a great time staying in Mariefred - Gripsholm castle was amazing and the town is very charming. The hotel promised a lot and the staff were excellent but overall, it was a let-down. Some things didn't work properly: the light in the hall of our room kept flickering then failed, even after being 'fixed', the drains in the beautiful, slick bathroom smelt really badly (even thought the batroom itself was spotless), the internet was lousy and the very expensive dinner was very bland and not worth anything near the price charged (Chicken roll with soggy 'crispy skin', tarragon powder, a bland gravy and carrot puree is not worth 30+ euros). The building is beautiful with a lot of the original decor lovingly maintained, but we just couldn't help but be reminded that we were in a corporate hotel, not (as the brand promises) a cultural pearl. If the room / internet problems were sorted out, the restaurant was to serve food worthy of the price tag and the stacks of products for sale in the lobby made a lot less obvious, then it could have got 5 stars from us but it simply didn't deliver.

Good hotel in a great location
Very good hotel. It is a little bit quirky but all the better for it. Nice and quiet in the room even though the rest of the hotel was busy. In line with everywhere else in Sweeden the food and drinks are expensive but in line with prices in the area.

Overlooks Gripsholm Palace
Great location, walk into town and to palace. Outdoor seating overlooking palace for dinner and lounge area for drinks. Our room was small but sufficient. Breakfast was good as well.

Great Winter Break While On. Business Trip
We spent two nights including Valentines Day in a standard room. Our view was of the castle and lake, be sure to ask for a lake view . The restaurants are expensive but good with great service. My wife took advantage of the spa and received wonderful treatments. We were seek a restfull time and found a wonderful retreat. No activity in the area during the winter mobths.
