Southwind - Beautiful Country Estate with Private Pond and Pool

This spacious country home sits pretty on a hill overlooking the private pond and is only 10 miles from downtown Helen. The main level has several incredible gathering areas including a large kitchen, dining room, and a cozy living room with a wood-burning stove. The entire house has been tastefully decorated with lots of amenities and thoughtful touches.

The coffee maker at Southwind is a standard drip-style that takes basket filters. Bring you ground coffee! Besides the standard kitchen appliances, there is a closet filled with small appliances! There are two crock pots, a panini pan, an ice cream maker, a two-burner electric hot plate, a food processor, an electric skillet, a blender and a quesadilla maker. This closet is located in the hall on the way to the garage where you will find an additional refrigerator, if needed. In this hall are the beautiful front-loading washer and dryer, too.

For entertainment, there is satellite television and WiFi. If you must work while on vacation, there are several desks waiting for you to set up office. Take a break on the front porch, the perfect place to relax and unwind, watch the birds and wait for the three docile cows to come to the fence for a visit. Don't forget the fishing poles! The pond is for your fishing pleasure! There is also an outdoor fire pit and gazebo for evenings outdoors. In the summer, enjoy the pool and the outdoor seating areas. For meals cooked outside, the gas grill is equipped with both burners and griddle.

No small beds at Southwind! There are kings and queen only. Every bedroom is equipped with a television and plenty of room to sneak away for a little quiet time. On the first floor are two bedrooms, the master king and a guest king. The master king bedroom has a private bath, including a jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower. The guest king bedroom has a bath with shower/tub combo just in the hall. Upstairs is a king bedroom with private bath and then one king and one queen with a Jack-and-Jill bath.

Please be mindful of the full-time apartment tenant's parking spot just past the garage and leave room for him to come and go. There is parking for 5 or 6 vehicles at Southwind.

Southwind is a beautiful property, obviously much loved. So comfortable and the furnishings were amazing. Great antique but sturdy and comfortable as well as beautiful. Had a very cozy feel although it was a spacious home. The pool made it fantastic! everything was very clean and worked very well. The pool sparkled and there were extra floats already there. Extremely infteresting books avail (if I could afford it, would book a few days just to read through the library). Every kitchen appliance known was stocked and great quantities of silverware, plates, etc. Beautiful landscaping, plenty of running room and the pond in the front yard. Close to town but you feel like you are away from all of that. Highly reccomend this property for your family getaway. Bone up on ROKU tv and take your passwords with you.

We all felt property was fair but could really be a gem. The outside needed a good power washing and pool needs work as liner was coming out of sides (needs liner lock). Shower curtain liners could be thicker and fit better. Chairs or benches around fire pit would be nice. There were no instructions for wood stove operation. The bedrooms were nice, as was dining space, living room and bathrooms. The pool deck had adequate tables and chairs for sitting outside. The house was very dated and could use updating but all in all we enjoyed our stay. We did have plumbing issue but repairs were handled promptly and I am sure owners will rectify the major repairs recommended as waiting for repairs cost us a half day of sightseeing in the area. We would not stay here again but think with some TLC this place could be a gold mine.

Plenty of room for everyone to spread out or come together for meals, etc. The pool was great for entertaining the 12yo. Kitchen is well equipped but could use better lighting. Also don’t forget to bring containers to put leftovers in, plastic wrap etc. The pool doesn’t have much of a shallow end so if you have any small children plan accordingly. We hope to go again sometime.

The house was big enough to accommodate 5 couples. The shower curtain for the 1st floor master walk in shower is not wide enough. It doesn't cover the entire opening. Asked the management company where the light switch was for the outdoor lights around the pool. She didn't know but said she would find out from the owner and get back to me which never happened.

The property was beautiful, the views amazing, the beds were so comfortable. But the home does need some updates. The carpet in the bathroom freaked me out. And the tub was not working. The kitchen table was not safe. But the pool, space and area made up for it!

Beautiful property ! The fishing pond was a hit ! The pool was so clean !! Several mornings and evening the deer would be on property. Just 2 recommendations-- the stovetop was terrible--but I saw a new range in the garage ! There is a person who stays in the apartment above the garage -/ only saw the car move once. Recommend- he or she introduces themselves--kinda creepy if they are watching us. Overall-- excellent house, property and pool. Thank you

Simply Beautiful
The house was comfy...pool was awesome... property peaceful. This was a great trip for our family. The property was well maintained and peaceful. The pool & the house were clean. Never saw the neighbors. Saw some deer in the backyard though. Close to Helen and the quaint little mountain town of Cleveland which is a 10 minute drive and has everything you could need. I would definitely recommend this rental property.

Perfect house for our Thanksgiving getaway!
My entire family enjoyed thanksgiving and the Helen tree lighting on this family getaway!!! The house was large and spacious and very clean. The pond was an extra bonus, as my 10 year old grandson and son in law were able to fish!!! Would definitely stay there again

Vacation at Southwind
Exactly as described! Plenty of space, casually comfortable, and having a private pool was the icing on the cake. Fishing, swimming and exploring the 4 surrounding charming towns was just what we needed. Everyone had a great time, from my 82 yr old mother down to the 3yr old niece. A perfect place to spend a week chilling and relaxing.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The property is spacious and has a beautiful pond that is very tranquil. The house is large and has plenty of separate spaces for different groups. Complete Southern Experience
This property was gorgeous inside and out. We were greeted by cows in a pasture on our way up the driveway. The front yard overlooks a beautiful pond with a bridge and sitting areas. The other side of the hill was even set up for a wedding. It felt like driving into the scene of a hallmark movie. Inside is a comfortable retreat that feels like home. Every bedroom has its own bath. It was exactly the amount of leisure and rest that we needed. A reasonable distance from local restaurants and attractions. Big enough for our whole family to be together, but quiet enough that we all slept comfortably. The hosts were perfect. They called before arrival, answered when I contacted with only one simple question, checked in the next day to make sure we were comfortable, and were excited to hear we enjoyed our stay. If I could pick up this whole property and move it to New York I would. If we’re ever back in Georgia I’d like to stay here again.

Pros: The house is on a beautiful piece of property. We enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor seating. Feels like your own piece of the mountains. It was clean and the checkin and check out process were easy. Most of the beds were comfortable. Had all the dishes needed to cook and serve meals. Cons: the house it very dated and could use updating or a new coat of paint inside at the very least. Basically, it felt like staying at my grandparents house and (even tho it was clean) had that mustiness that old houses have. Most VRBOs I've stayed at had basic stuff like cooking spray, aluminum foil, basic spices. This one didn't. We left salt and pepper for the next guest though! The WiFi cut out the second night but it was late enough (9pm) in the night that I didn't want to bother anyone to fix it. WiFi is necessary due to poor phone service (obviously not their fault). Overall, I'd suggest this place to people looking to get away and enjoy some time outside. Big families would like it. Plenty of space with big rooms. I wouldn't suggest it to someone that wants something modern.
