The “True Early 30’s classic cottage with character. Historically captured as the first “BAT CAVE POST OFFICE” now equipped with newly modern amenities, and still possessing the old time feeling of easy, relaxation, and tranquility.

You sleep at night with the peacefulness of the flowing river and the 4 foot waterfall right behind the home below the deck. The view is breath taking in all directions.

Trout fishing is a lot of fun with a river stocking taking place once a week. Only 100 yards down stream and 1/4 mile upstream you are sure to enjoy the catch of the day, hopefully for all to see. Personal steps that lead to the river are for our guests with the brand new decks on each level. We recommend water shoes for everyone to wear.

Come, sit and relax by reading a book or watching all the wildlife here.

Pros and Cons
On a positive note: * House was very clean! Not a cobweb in sight! * Refrigerator was great. * Kitchen was great. Well stocked with small appliances, cookware and utensils. * Bruce was very responsive to requests for additional trash bags, etc. and was very nice. * The AC was a blessing as it was in the 90’s outside! Consider this: * Beds were ok. * Blankets were old but sheets were nice. * Towels are threadbare and need replacing. * Water pressure in upstairs bathroom was very low. * There were no cleaning supplies for cleaning the kitchen. * Damaged or missing screens on the windows meant we couldn’t open the windows. * Patio furniture was really comfy but not in good shape. All of the chairs need replacing. * Living room furniture is old, in poor condition and very uncomfortable. * BBQ was nice to have but has clearly been mistreated. * The stairs are brutally steep. All 4 of us were over 60 and had a hard time. * Shuffleboard completely unusable, damaged and no sand. * Pictures in ad are very out of date and do not represent current set up. * House is literally 10 feet off the pavement of a main road. Traffic noise isn’t an issue but it felt a little unsafe when getting in and out of our cars. * TV does not offer Netflix or any other streaming and rental of movies offered via dish network were not an option as per owner. Bring your own streaming device as dish tv stations available didn’t offer any current content.

Comfortable stay
Just drop your bags and relax. Property is comfortable, clean and cozy. It felt as if we were staying at our beloved family mountain house. It had everything you would need for a restful stay. All we wanted to see and do was a short drive away. We napped, ate, laughed and just enjoyed the time together. We swam at Lake Lure beach, shopped Chimney Rock stores and took a very long hiking trip at DuPont Park ( near Brevard). We really enjoyed having that massage chair to help soothe the muscles we forgot we had, lol! That and the spa tub on the porch really got us ready for sleep. Yes, the house is close to the street but you’re on the river, which is very rare for the area. We weren’t bothered by that. At all. Our focus was on each other and making memories. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We hope to return again in the fall when the apples are ripe and the air is cooler.

Lovely quiet stay
Our family enjoyed our weekend away at Bruce’s place! The hot tub and massage chair was wonderful after a long day of hiking. Quick drive to hiking and mtb trails, groceries and restaurants. Enjoyed the location on the creek as well.

Nice thanksgiving!
We went for thanksgiving. Family had a great time. Plenty of room for everyone. Bruce was great and allowed for our dog to come last minute even. Very accommodating. The kitchen was super well stocked and made thanksgiving cooking easy! Hot tub was great after a big meal! Place was very clean!!! The stairway light didn’t work, so that was a little scary. It’s a dark steep staircase! And the gas fireplace in the living room didn’t work. We’d recommend. Nice place and sleep with the window open to hear the river! Nice little touch! ;)

The location was perfect for Hendersonville, NC. The kids enjoyed the game room which kept them busy. The beds were comfortable. The fishing was good and the kitchen was clean and modern and all the utensils we needed!!! The owner was informative and polite.

Quaint cottage in a great location
The cottage was rustic and charming. The location was great, just a short drive to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The river running through the backyard was heavenly. The host was responsive and accessible. Definitely would recommend!

Perfect tubing place!
We loved being right on the river it was the perfect spot to float along the river. People have complained that this property is right on the road but if you’ve ever driven through that area you know the river is close to the road so of course the houses will be even closer to the road. The place is cute with an updated kitchen, the house is old but well taken care of. The only thing we didn’t like were the ring cameras on all the posts outside our door, it just felt a little creepy like we were always being watched & the communication with the owner was strange, he was quick responding which was great but his texts just seemed rude. I don’t know if that was intentional. Over all it was the perfect spot for us.

This property is a delight ! The view is breathtaking. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony as well as watching the sunset . We spent so much time just staring at the view . There was plenty of room for kids and the river was so much fun ! This property is in one of the best locations in Bat cave . The owner communicates promptly and is very kind . We all took turns in the massage chair which was a huge hit . This is a rustic cabin , with a new washer dryer and dishwasher . We ate most of our meals there and it was very convenient to wash out swim suits , clean up after meals . There is a hose right when you come up from the stream so you can wash up and leave water shoes outside . I would stay here again . Great experience ! Very close to chimney rock and grandads apples !

The disappointment
There was a reason the front of house wasn’t in pictures. The house was right on the road with fast moving cars not good with young kids. River had been lowered so no fishing. Floors very dirty. Bathroom was black in a lot of areas. No extra blankets, and we were told we could use futon or roll away bed. Sheets were old and stretched out and didn’t fit beds. Though the mattresses were probably great when new, unfortunately mattresses were old. Internet, though listed as fast, does no go if the internet is off and on. The tv had no real stations to watch. The deck door was so heavy and difficult to open or close. Oven very dirty. When power went out there were no flashlights. The owner brought candles. He had no idea fire frightens me due to childhood. All the bedrooms upstairs. I didn’t spot that on listing. Not great for handicapped. There was a list of things to do before leaving. I was told it was over 15 years old and don’t bother with it. Why is the list there then. There was no mop to clean floors. There was no cleaning products to was floors anyways. We left a day early. That added to the cost I do not feel this place was honestly represented. It was not worth the price.

Awesome host, great location, very clean
This cottage is clean inside and out and is also located very near Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Deck area has a nice table and good seating which overlooks a rushing river, with interesting wildlife and nice view. There is also a hot tub. Grill on the deck is so clean it looks practically new and we enjoyed using it! Kitchen is also very well equipped with everything you need. Bruce dropped by shortly after we arrived. He let us know he lives very near if we needed anything. After that, he sent a text once in a while if he was going somewhere out of cellphone range, but he was always very respectful of our privacy. We had the house to ourselves for the entire stay. The morning of check out, my car would not start. He was so kind, and tried to jump start the car for us, but it didn’t work. He invited us to go back inside the air conditioned cottage to wait for a tow truck. It was a hot day, and a long wait. We are so grateful to him for his kindness and good conversation that day. But I must be honest. This is an older cottage that sits close to a highway. I was worried about that at first, but you rarely hear highway noise inside. It was built perhaps in the 1940’s or earlier? and the walls are thick rough hewn wood. It has been renovated to update bathrooms, kitchen, deck, add a hot tub, etc. so it is a mix of old and new. This is not a fancy place, but it is a great spot if you want a peaceful place on the river to visit with old friends. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Just WOW!!!!
We had so much fun! The property was beautiful and the sound of the river was the soul soothing experience I needed to relax. My teenage sons spent most of the time either at the river or in the hot tube. (P.S. hot tubs were super clean and well maintianed... we haven't had that at other places) The entire experience was wonderful and we will be back every year! One of THE BEST places we have stayed. If you have teenagers who sometimes get along but also need their space, this is the place for you. It is big enough to give everyone in the family room to move around but also spend quality family time together!

Just right!
Right in the middle of a laid back area where time seems to have slowed to a totally different tick of the clock. Easy check-in/check-out. This spot was just what we were hoping to find! The hot tub deck hangs right next to the river with a beautiful view from every angle. The unit was very clean and well maintained with easy access to the Asheville area. We will definitely be back to enjoy again! Bruce, the owner, was always ready to assist with our needs. Thanks again buddy, hope to see you again soon!

The house was clean and hearing the sound of the water is the best. Second time for us to stay here and we will be back! There wasn’t anytime that we have not enjoyed the atmosphere and fellowship here.

2 💫 Star Rating. I feel very sad to have to write a 2 star review but I feel people should be aware of what they are spending their very hard earned money on when trying to go on a nice vacation or get away. I'll start with what the 2 stars are for. One, you are on the river. Two, there is a hot tub. But make sure you read the fine print under the Amenities on the Pool and Spa about the hot tub because apparently the owner shuts the Hot Tub down November 1st through April 1st. My family and I got there on the 3rd of November NOT knowing this was in the fine print. Thank goodness the weather was warmer then usual around this time of year and the owner decided to leave it on. Now for the rest of the details everyone should know about. Yes, one side of the cottage is on the river but the other side of the cottage is right on a main road and it is VERY busy and you are EXTREMELY close to it. You hear nothing but car after truck after truck after car and ect.... It was horrible! I was constantly stressing each time I heard vehicles going 60 to 80 miles an hour zipping past wondering if my truck was going to survive unscathed because YES you are that close to the road. Now to the inside of the cottage. The towels are ancient and feel like sand paper. The bed sheets are older then my grandmother's, and there was a smell in one of the bedrooms upstairs that was very unpleasant. I can only describe it as old dirty socks. It was not a mold smell. I am a professional house cleaner by trade and I clean a lot of water front homes so I know what a musty or mold-like smell is, and that was not the smell. The cottage is much smaller then the pictures lead you to believe. The sliding glass door to get out to the hot tub is a joke! For the amount you are paying a night to stay here they should be able to cough up enough money for a glass door that shuts properly. Shoot! They should have proper towels and sheets as well. Also, yes, there are steps leading down to the water but they are VERY dangerous and unstable. Oh, and to top it all off, the ceiling in the kitchen started leaking while we were there. It was leaking into the kitchen ceiling fan and came from the upstairs shower plumbing. We notified the owner of the situation and he said that it was supposed to had been fixed a few months ago and we were the first tenants to mention to him that it was leaking again. We felt we had to. Hello? Huge safety hazard anyone!? Due to the leak we could only us

Stayed at many VRBO this was not a pleasant experience gave been to the area many times

It had a great view!
Eh, it was quite a bit older than what my girlfriends and I usually stay in when we have a girl’s weekend in the mountains. The pictures gave us the impression that it was newer and more modern which is the kind of place we usually stay at when we go to the mountains from Raleigh. I thought the price was pretty steep for the age of the house. It is on a wonderful view of the water and it is very soothing back there. The hot tub was nice and the kitchen was pretty well equipped. I wish the pan options were a little bit more but we were able to use what we had. The bed I slept in, one of the queen beds, was actually very comfortable. All in all we had a great time. I just think it was overpriced. The hosts may want to consider hiring a new cleaning person/team. The basic look of the house was clean, but when you start looking between things like the upstairs bathroom and that space between the shower and sink (a broom will fit in this space), the current crew is missing a lot. We joked that now we knew where to get hair ties from if we lost ours. Also, the upstairs floor needs painting! I was still pulling off grey paint chips from my feet when I got home. I will say for those of you who want to bring your dogs, we were so glad we didn’t bring ours because there is very little space to walk them around outside. The front of the house is right on a busy street and in order to get to the back of the house by the river you have to climb down steep stairs and it’s pretty rocky down there. Had I brought my dog, I would’ve been a nervous wreck. Check out was very easy the hosts sent me a lovely safe travels text upon checkout. :)
