Experience a one of a kind stay in Nana’s Treehouse by the Sea. This elevated cottage style, private home is nestled within a lush “old trees” forest preserve on the South end of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Located in beautiful SeaPines is a special place called “Deer Island” accessed by a wooden bridge across the tidal Marsh waterway. Here in this natural space you will find Nana’s treehouse. Secluded from the town, the “treehouses” are in a peaceful, quiet area that feels miles away. Only a five minute walk to Harbourtown, the island’s favorite iconic marina. You will find all sorts of activities in town, including boating, kayaking, shops, Live music (seasonally) & some of the best restaurants on the island. This unique, octagon style home is designed with ceiling to floor glass walls to experience being amongst the tall magnificent trees & nature that surrounds you. Bicycle trails abound here in SeaPines, with shaded trails winding through the trees with much wonderful nature to explore. Bike paths bring you to many amazing & breathtaking sights, including marsh fields with flocks of birds, a wonderful horse & animal farm & nature preserve parks. The beach of course, is close by
(One of Nana’s favorite things to do is bike ride on the beach)The ocean is an easy 20 minute bicycle ride to the SeaPines beach club where you can enjoy the beach or listen to live music at one of the restaurants and outdoor bars.
Renting bikes is easy, many shops will drop off & pickup bicycles for you. This place is truly an outdoor nature lovers dream!
Nana’s Treehouse has a vintage & artsy vibe, with many original features, including a classic style Japanese soaking tub (a wonderful must try experience!)
The kitchen is well stocked with cooking essentials, including a new stove & oven. The living room with vaulted ceiling has a comfortable couch & reclining chair, TV/high speed Internet & cable selections.
The spiral staircase to the lower level sitting area has a relaxing chair & desk. The lower level screen door brings in the ocean breezes while you read or just sit and watch the deer come by for a visit.
A very special & favorite activity!
Two outdoor living areas are great way to relax & enjoy the forest scenery. The lower level patio is the perfect spot to curl-up in one of the hammocks or futon couch and watch the deer come by daily. Nana’s Treehouse/cottage by the sea is a lightly rented & owner enjoyed property much throughout the year. This special treehouse is the owners favorite place to be.
We hope our guests appreciate our Forest Treehouse by the Sea much as we do!
The following is parts from a Letter written by Charles Fraser (founder of HHI)
This letter speaks to what this special place means to many of us “islanders” & our grateful visitors
Where We Live…By: Charles Fraser
“Where we live is the maritime forest, the rural South, the Lowcountry.
We are among wild grape vines, palmettos, myrtles, and bay, sea oats and
American beach grass, alligators and squirrels, sable palm and live oak,
loblolly and long leaf pines. This is a seaside, marsh surrounded, forest
covered, sub-tropical, ocean-bathed island.
This is not to be an efficient,
maintenance free, planned unit development. Here the roads are deliberately and delicately curved to hold the look of the woods instead of
the look and efficiency of the boulevard. The light is subdued to hold the night, to give the stars a chance to be seen, to give the owl and the human a chance to
experience it.
You may have to drive a bit slower and you may have to strain to see the signs but you will have gained more than you sacrificed
if you will savor rather than rush, if you will meander and enjoy”
~~~
“We are to refresh ourselves in the vistas and shadows. We are to enjoy the
stillness that only great trees and the tallest pines can offer. We are to
delight in the whimsy of brightly colored birds darting through the Spanish
moss and we are to listen to the rattle of the palm shaking in the grasp of
the sea breeze”
~~~
The picture is big and it is one of a place
where the spirit of man is restored by its interaction with the cosmos. It
is about the refreshment of the body and mind, of rest and challenge, sports
and relaxation, visually and chemically unpolluted nature.”
