We visit Idyllwild several times a year and we always stay at Tahquitz Pines Retreat! For a family of 4 cabin 4 and 24 are the best! The property is gorgeous and it is close to hiking trails and the little downtown area. There is also a restaurant on the property itself which is very convenient. We will definitely be back!

This is an older property that was completely renovated and opened earlier this year. Everything was nice, new and clean. We stayed in a King bed room, rather than a cabin. It was very nice with double-paned glass so you didn't hear much from the road, but the neighbor noise was pretty clear. There are two things that seem minor that renovators forget or don't think to do that would make a big difference in comfort. One is lighting. That inset overhead lighting is not nice, so install a dimmer, and make sure the bulbs are warm. Also put warm bulbs in the lamps. The other thing is hangers -- add coat hangers and hangers in the closet. There was nowhere to hang stuff other than draping it over the one chair in the room. The restaurant is so-so. It's a weird mix of really trying (bar, fabric tablecloths and napkins, good service, fancy steaks for dinner) while it still looks like a camp cafeteria. The prices for brunch and lunch are good but the quality and portions were nothing special (the hash brown was one of those frozen kind you get in the market--reminded me of my college days LOL). Hopefully once they get more business, that can improve. It's nice that it's in a really quiet spot. The property is a great location too, in Fern Valley with a view of Tahquitz peak, with nice landscaping and plenty of parking.
