The Bothy at Ardtun Cottages is tucked away in the tiny crofting community of Ardtun, just a short distance from the main village of Bunessan. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, this semi-detached cottage lies in the perfect spot to truly get away from it all. A former outhouse attached to the stables building on a croft and renovated with loving care by the owner, The Bothy offers a warm, homely atmosphere on the idyllic Ross of Mull and the opportunity of exploring the beautiful sandy bays. There is opportunity to spy golden and sea eagles, seals, shy otters, and the not so shy red deer that roam quite freely. Walking into the Bothy, directly into the open-plan living space, you find it is perfectly equipped for a couple to self-cater with ease. You’ll love snuggling up on the cosy seating whilst listening to the sounds of the sea from Loch na Làthaich close by. A door leads off into the welcoming double bedroom (with en-suite shower room), which promise a good night’s sleep after a day exploring everything the island has to offer.
It is just a short stroll down the hill onto the shore looking over Loch na Làthaich, with lovely views towards Bunessan. Just sit and watch the day go by, or observe the seabirds fishing in the bay, watch an otter eat its dinner on the sea shore, or perhaps spy a sea eagle soaring overhead. If you choose complete escapism, there is limited mobile signal and currently no Wi-Fi connection, however, 4G is available if desired.
A 5-minute drive along the road takes you into Bunessan, which is the largest village on the Ross of Mull, where there is a hotel and bar, the village shop/post office and a community centre. It’s a short 5-mile drive to Fionnphort, the port for ferries to the stunning Island of Iona where St Columba arrived in AD 563 founding a centre of worship where the restored abbey continues an interactive community life.
There are two excellent beaches at Uisken and at Ardlanish Bay, both within a short drive, which are quite possible the best on the island! Craignure, the main ferry port, is a scenic 45-minute drive north. The Isle of Mull is situated just off the west coast of Scotland and is the second largest of the Inner Hebridean islands. Its easily accessible from the mainland with car and passenger ferries running regularly from the mainland with the main route being form Oban to Craignure via Caledonian MacBrayne. Boasting approximately 300 miles of coastline from rugged cliffs to both white and black sandy beaches, the beauty of Mull can be enjoyed year-round with an ever-changing, spectacular landscape. Beach 500 yards.
The Bothy can be booked together with The Stables (UK37415) to accommodate up to 6 guests.
