Air con not working!! 28c at Midnight!!
Air con wasn’t working so room was 28c at midnight!! Complained but staff just amazed AC didn’t work. We had three rooms and none worked, very poor!! Breakfast was also very dried up and poor quality! Probably try and find something else if you can although location was good for Gunwharf Quays!

Family visit
My cousin and I were coming to the area for a family birthday celebration that weekend, so we decided to travel down a day earlier, as we love Portsmouth harbour and its naval history. This hotel was situated in a very convenient area for us to visit the dockyard, and have a good choice of where to eat

We loved that we were welcomed from first entering the hotel. Maria and Bethany, the receptionists not only offered ice creams and pastries, but gave us lots of tips on making savings at local restaurants and shops by showing our room keys. The disabled parking was full so we parked in Gunwharf Quays and the hotel picked up the tab, great. The room was a good size with the usual teas and coffee but there was also another coffee machine at reception with hot chocolate, cappuccino, latte etc free. A nice shower in the bathroom, not powerful but adequate. Breakfast was plentiful with something for everyone. Great location, walking distance from historic sights, restaurants and shopping centres. Would recommend, yes.

Terrible breakfast in a tired hotel
The stay was adequate as the location and parking were good but the room was 'tired' with peeling paint in places, and the air-con didn't work properly (apparently an upgrade is due). The 'free' breakfast was very poor quality - cheap and tasteless ingredients, and very basic - I would rather pay for something edible. We didn't bother to go to breakfast on our second day as it was such a depressing and miserable experience.

Excellent location
Everything was efficient, told all information that we needed at reception. Comfy bed, but wish it was king size, very good breakfast, free parking in Gunwharf Quays by hotel. Walk out into shopping & restaurant area. Discount available at several local restaurants if you're staying at Holiday Inn. Tourist information at entrance & reception.

This is not my kind of hotel to be honest. I stayed there to catch an early ferry to Caen.But the hotel was very nice and the staff quite helpful. They arranged a taxi for me very early in the morning and it all worked perfectly. The free breakfast was good enough too. The outlet mall could be anywhere in the world and I am not a fan.

Granted, it’s not the most lavish hotel room I’ve ever had but you simply can’t get a better location! Breakfast is included and Wi-Fi doesn’t require a pesky password. Shopping is right outside the door (the hotel is actually part of a shopping mall) and there are tons of restaurants around, many of which offer discounts to guests of the hotel. City center is walking distance. Isle of Wight ferry is also right there. Absolutely wonderful place to stay in Portsmouth for a visit or before a cruise. One word of warning: if you plan on taking the train to Portsmouth from Gatwick, do NOT expect a seamless journey! Between signal problems, train problems and a dizzying number of obstructions on the tracks, you will be delayed—happened to me twice.

Lovely hotel,great staff
Had a really lovely stay at the HIE Gunwharf Quays. The staff were excellent & my room was clean & quiet. Couldn’t have asked for more. The hotel is also in a perfect spot for shopping,restaurants & visiting the Isle of Wight. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again
