We really wanted to stay in the Belhaven area & the location was great! The guest unit is just as described, but has some room for improvement that would make the stay a lot more comfortable. I hope that the owners will take the following suggestions as feedback and put some time and money into a quick facelift to make this little gem really sparkle.
The kitchen is really convenient, clean, and has pretty much everything you could need for a short stay. I would suggest getting better silverware and organizing it better. The size of the silverware is oddly tiny. I would also suggest getting a small Keurig-type single pod coffee maker.
The bathroom is spacious, but has only the small counter area around the sink for a surface. It would be great to put in a console table, bench, or some other piece of furniture that could be used for surface area and storage of toiletries. There are some hooks, but only one small towel rack. And the sink faucet needs to be tightened up. The toilet is an older round seat-type and flushed slowly, but that's not a surprise in an older house and didn't create any problems.
The bed seemed a bit small for a queen. It was comfortable, but because there is a lean to the floor, it feels like you're rolling out of the bed when you turn over. The apartment is bright, but it would be great to have blackout or heavier drapes that could be pulled over the windows. There is only one bar over the windows (which appeared to be drooping in the center), so there is no way to pull the curtains to block out the sun in the morning. Also, no way to block the sun in the window above where the AC unit is. There are blinds, but they didn't block light well.
There is only the window AC unit for cooling (& heating in the winter), so it got a bit stuffy at times & smelled when we arrived. The AC unit looked dirty & the display was hard to read. A new AC unit might be in order.
There are two large closets. While theses are kind of cool, it would be great to remove one of them to make the usable area of the unit larger. There is a small loveseat that is pretty broken in and adding more room would allow for a new, larger couch.
The house was rented when we stayed & there was a party being held there. The family hosting the party was really friendly, so we were fine with the noise and extra cars & people on the property. If they hadn't been so friendly and nice, the situation could have been very different. Just something to think about.
