Dear friends,
I have left this site active to inform you that The Outpost on the Noli is no longer in operation. The cabin was completely washed away by flooding following a weather system that saturated the area, this catastrophically compounded by Hurricane Helene. The beauty of our river valleys throughout the area has been devastated.
This event has shaken me to the core. The loss of beauty, wildlife, and property is heartbreaking. What resonates as profoundly is the loss of welcoming guests to my beautiful home; sharing the perfect, most magical place with others to bond with family and friends, unwind, and connect with nature. This is truly heart wrenching and I miss that aspect of my life everyday.
Rebuilding is not an option. Financially not so, but even if it were, the landscape is not a welcoming sight. This very well could be the case for many years to come.
To my previous guests, many whom were return guests, my appreciation is unmeasurable. I assure you, each of you were a blessing in my life. It would be nice to hear from you.
And so, for the final time…
Happy trails,
Alex
Enjoy the peace and seclusion of The Outpost. The river so close it feels like part of the cabin decor! The setting is at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest. The river and a creek provide two boundaries of the property.
AND TO PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE: With a background in nursing and having practiced for thirty one years, infection control practices are carried into my home and business. A two night vacancy is required between guests. As well, all laundry is washed with the addition of Lysol Laundry Sanitizer.
The property is centrally located to Jonesborough, Tri-Cities, Greeneville, and Erwin. It is situated for perfect day trips to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville and Hot Springs, NC, and Abingdon, VA. If you are like many guests however, once you arrive, you will be hesitant to leave The Outpost until time of your departure.
Rustic, clean and welcoming cabin with three bedrooms, well-appointed kitchen and two common areas. Each living area has a futon that converts to a full-size bed for additional sleeping. There is a full bathroom with tub/shower. The second bathroom with shower is in the adjoining structure in the Pavilion. There is an additional large sink in the Pavilion.
So you thought you would forgo the culinary labors throughout vacation; well, you may decide otherwise when you see the views from the kitchen and the fact that this kitchen is equipped like no other vacation rental. Such a joy to cook while watching the river flow and from two different views!
Grilling on the gas grill on the covered Lido Deck is another option, thereby enjoying beautiful panoramic views. Deciding which outdoor setting you will enjoy while dining becomes yet another decision with each meal.
The River Porch tends to be the focal point of the cabin. Rocking chairs provide the perfect spot from which you can lose yourself while watching the Nolichucky River flow steadily by. Early morning coffee tends to be a favorite activity for the River Porch!
The Pond Porch is accessed through French doors from each bedroom. It not only overlooks the pond but also provides a 'wide-angle view' of the foothills, fields, and, in the winter time, the creek. (There is a pond but unfortunately with repeated flooding in years past with silt settling into the pond, it has steadily become more shallow. Wildlife love it still so does provide for great photo opportunities.).
The Lido Deck provides many angles of the pond, fields and river. There is both covered and uncovered decking. The covered area has the grill with serving bar and eating areas. And, if you have ever felt cheated of your vacation due to inclement weather you will likely feel it a blessing at The Outpost! The sound of rain on the metal roof, on the trees and in the river is mesmerizing. You can enjoy the grill and also the outdoor games provided for just such occasions.
The Pavilion is screened with views of the pond and river. There are fans and a fireplace. The Lower Deck off The Pavilion is a favorite, as the proximity to the river lends a presence all its own.
About a 12 mile drive in any direction will take you to nice grocery stores. Local, much closer businesses have what is needed to "get you by" or supplement your supplies. There are close, locally owned restaurants as well. Information about the local businesses and towns is provided to guests prior to arrival.
You will not want to miss quaint and well-preserved Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee. Storytelling is a huge attraction here and in fact, the town hosts the International Storytelling Festival in October. Being the oldest town in the state there are many historical structures. A very impressive Visitors Center has information on tours and events. There are unique dining venues and shops, a local brewery and distillery. There are nice grocery stores and a local Farmer's Market. Festivals are commonplace in Jonesborough.
There are many destinations you will enjoy within the Cherokee National Forest, including hiking trails, waterfalls and picnic areas. The Outpost is less than 2 miles from a gorgeous 40-foot waterfall, more impressive when there has been recent rains. Numerous trailheads are in the immediate area. Viking Mountain provides a breathtaking vista. Paint Creek Corridor is a beautiful drive and great for bicycling. There are too many to mention.
As the owner of The Outpost I am confident that your stay at The Outpost would exceed all expectations. As many guests have expressed, "words can not describe it", "pictures do not do it justice". Let the unique nature of The Outpost transform your vacation into a one-of-a-kind experience.
It would be a pleasure to serve as your host to your entire family, including your furry loved ones, and, oh yes, feathered ones too! (I had a parrot once).
Dogs, and cats, love The Outpost and I love having them!
The Outpost is a tobacco-free property.
