At Herlihy’s, there is an opportunity to play “mine host” in your own pub.
Yes! You will live quite literally in the pub. Herlihy’s Bar ceased trading as a licensed premises in 2017.
Since then the bar and ancillary areas have been re-commissioned into wheelchair friendly self-catering accommodation.
The bar counter is now home to a bespoke fitted kitchen, featuring all “mod cons”, the bar back remains in situ and the bar floor area has been transformed into living/dining space complete with up-cycled bar furniture and a sofa bed. In contrast to the traditional bar ambience, the remainder of the unit is ultramodern and encompasses a double bedroom, bathroom, complete with wet area and utility room. A private wheelchair accessible entrance leads into a hallway and a patio-door gives direct access from the bedroom to a beautiful garden (where one can barbecue weather permitting!), terrace and car park.
There is a lovely atmospheric ambience to the accommodation, making it perfect as a cosy welcoming venue for a totally relaxing break. It is the perfect location for a Kerry holiday just 1.5 km from Kerry Airport and 15 km from Killarney town centre. Plus a first rate taxi service. Being in the village, there is a supermarket, pharmacy, post office, takeaway and bar/restaurant on the doorstep.
Proprietor, Marie (whose family have owned the property since 1912) is a professional archaeologist, with a deep love of Ireland's rich and varied culture and heritage. She was the recipient of the 2015 Kerry Heritage Award. Marie is editor of The Kerry Magazine and current president of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society. She has a family of two cats, who can be guaranteed to socialise with her guests should the opportunity arise.
